Full name LUIS ARMANDO HERNANDEZ (MENDOZA)...Graduated from Unidad Educativa Altagracia in Quibor, Venezuela...Played soccer and baseball.
2012
Spent most of the 2012 season at Triple-A Round Rock (Texas Rangers) where he hit .262 (136-519) with 23 doubles, 6 triples, 8 homers and 70 RBI in 129 games. He appeared in 113 games at shortstop and 15 games at second base and recorded a season fielding pct. of .981 (12E, 627TC). The Quibor, Venezuela native also appeared in 2 games with Texas from August 24-27 when Michael Young went on the Paternity List (0-for-2). Hit in 16 straight games from August 4-20 and from August 1 thru the end of the season he hit .359 (42-117) with 10 2B, 3 3B, 1HR & 23 RBI in 27 games after hitting .390 (41-105) in August with a .958 OPS...Hit .302 (55-182) in the 2nd half with 3 HR & 31 RBI...Hit .270 (96-355) off RHP with 15 2B, 6 3B, 5HR & 56 RBI and .304 (72-237) with runners on base.... Played for Aragua in the VZWL after the season, hitting .375 (39-104) with 11 2B, 13RBI and a .875OPS in 27 games.

Spent the entire year at Buffalo (AAA), batting .240 with 6 homers and 54 RBI in 121 games...was outrighted off the 40-man roster on March 30 and assigned to Buffalo...played 90 games/86 starts at second base, 21 G/20 starts at short, the first time in his career where shortstop was not his primary position...had a .980 (8 E/404 TC) fielding pct. at second base...hit .287 (35-122) with RISP, .300 (18-60) with RISP and 2 outs, and .381 (8-21) with the bases loaded, including a grand slam on June 9...was hitting as low as .196 (29-148) through June 5, but hit .266 (68-256) over his final 76 contests beginning June 6...2 of his 5 HR came in back-to-back games, July 21 at Syracuse and July 22 vs. Pawtucket... had 3 different games of season-high 5 RBI...was 3-for- 11 (.273) as a pinch-hitter. WINTER BALL: Played for Aragua in the Venezuelan Winter League, hitting .259 (48-185) with 9 doubles, 14 RBI and 21 runs scored in 50 games...also batted .244 (20-82) with 9 RBI and 11 runs in 22 postseason games as Aragua won the league title.

Had his contract selected from Buffalo (AAA) of the International League on August 27...His final at-bat of the season for the Mets was a memorable one...Fouled a ball off his right foot against Atlanta's Tim Hudson on September 18 leading off the sixth inning...Hit a home run on the next pitch...After the game it was revealed that he had broken a bone in the foot...Had surgery on September 21 to repair a fractured right metatarsal...The operaton was performed by Dr. Jonathan Deland at the Hospital Special Surgery...Hit a home run against the Cubs' Sean Marshall at Wrigley Field on September 3...Collected two home runs in 44 at-bats with the Mets...Had one home run in his previous 221 major league at-bats...Made 11 starts for the Mets, nine at second base and two at shortstop, August 29 vs. Houston and August 30 at Atlanta...Also saw action in two games at third base, August 31 at Atlanta and September 6 at Washington...Went 3-7 at Chicago on September 5 to tie his career-best...Had three hits, September 13, 2007, Baltimore at the Angels...Also had two hits at Washington on September 8...Before joining the Mets, he played in 57 games with Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League and 47 contests with Buffalo...Joined Buffalo on July 1...In 104 minor league games he collected three, four-hit games: May 1 at Akron, July 16 vs. Gwinnett and August 26 at Syracuse...Also had 20 games with two hits and 10 with three hits.

Made his first career Opening Day roster, breaking camp with the Baltimore Orioles...Appeared in 36 games for Baltimore before being Designated for Assignment on June 2nd...Spent the remainder of the season at Norfolk (AAA) of the International League.

Set a career high with five triples, three sacrifice flies, and 41 walks in 122 games at Mississippi (AA)...Hit .295 (28-for-95), including both of his home runs, in the month of August...Led off the ninth with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly giving the Braves the win on 5/7 at JAX...Went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored on 5/31 vs MTG...Went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored on 6/11 at WTN.
