In 1995 graduated from Elkins (TX) High School, where he was an Academic Excellence Award winner...as a senior went 7-1, 2.35 and earned All-State honors while leading EHS to the Texas 5A state championship...in 3 seasons at Baylor University went 21-14, 5.17 with 6 complete games and 288 strikeouts...as a junior went 13-4, 3.71 with 4 complete games and was named first-team All-Big 12 and a second-team All-American by Baseball America...that season established school records with 13 wins and 135 strikeouts...while playing for Brewster in 1997 was named the Outstanding Professional Prospect in the Cape Cod League.

2009

Came out of his start on 8/11 vs. SEA with a sprained left foot...Began season on the 15-day disabled list after undergoing surgery on 3/6 to repair a blocked artery in his right arm...Suffered complete blockage of the axillary artery, which is located in the upper chest beneath the clavicle and supplies blood to the head and arms (armpit)...The artery was replaced with a vein taken from Well's leg...Surgery performed by Dr. Robert Thompson at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis...Was transferred to the 60-day disabled list 4/15...Threw 46 pitches in a 3.0 inning simulated game in Bradenton, Fla., on 5/27.
