Name is pronounced DUKE-sher...Graduated from Coronado High School in Lubbock, Texas in 1996 where he played baseball, basketball, and tennis...Also played Little League, Pony League, and Colt League baseball...Was originally signed by Boston scout Luke Wrenn...His uncle, Baxter McAlister, played minor league baseball in the Houston Astros organization...Hosted the "Battle of the Bay" Video game challenge during Spring Training in 2006 and 2007 which raised funds for The National Multiple Sclerosis Society Arizona Chapter...His first child, Evan Jacob, was born the day he made his debut with Oakland, Sept. 9, 2003.

Missed the entire 2009 season...arrived at Spring Training recovering from 2008 hip surgery, but did not pitch in a Major League spring game because of elbow problems...Dr. Lewis Yocum performed arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow March 31 and he was placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27 to start the season...it was his fifth stint on the DL over the last four years...was transferred to the 60-day DL April 29 but his comeback from the elbow surgery was delayed by back issues...began a rehab assignment with Single-A Stockton July 26 at San Jose and retired all six batters he faced (2.0 ip, 2 so)...made his second rehab start at Triple-A Sacramento Aug. 9 against New Orleans and tossed 4.0 scoreless innings (2 h, 1 bb, 3 so)...his final start came Aug. 13 in the Arizona Rookie League against San Francisco and he tossed 5.0 shutout innings (4 h, 3 so)...did not yield a run in 11.0 innings in three rehab starts and allowed a .162 (6 for 37) opponents batting average...issued just one walk and struck out eight...on Aug. 21, it was announced that he would not pitch the rest of the season after being diagnosed with clinical depression.
2008

2007
Appeared in just 17 games before going on the disabled list in the middle of May with a strained right hip...had season ending surgery on the hip on July 11...was 3-3 with two blown saves and a 4.96 ERA...the ERA was his highest since posting a 12.27 ERA in five games during his first season in 2001 with Texas...allowed a .281 opponents batting average, a .351 on-base percentage and a.563 slugging percentage, which were also his highest figures since 2001 (.353/.421/.676)...his batting average broke down to .176 (6 for 34) against right-handers and .400 (12 for 30) against lefthanders... however, allowed all three of his home runs to right-handed hitters...opponents were just 1 for 20 (.050) with runners in scoring position, including 0 for 10 with RISP and two outs...has allowed a .133 (8 for 60) average with RISP over the last two years, including .091 (3 for 33) with RISP and two outs...allowed 2 of 7 (28.6%) inherited runners to score and first batters faced were 3 for 16 (.188)...has allowed a .132 (9 for 68) batting average to first batters faced over the last two years...tossed at least one inning in 13 of his 17 outings and his only outing over 1.0 innings came on April 5 at Los Angeles when he tossed 1.2 scoreless innings...was charged with his first blown save of the season in that game but later picked up the win in the A's 4-3 victory...did not allow a run in three outings and 3.2 innings against Los Angeles in 2007 and now has a 16-game, 20.1- inning scoreless streak against the Angels dating back to April 23, 2005...has a 1.21 ERA (5 er in 37.1 ip) in 22 career outings against Los Angeles...did not allow a run over a six-game stretch from April 24 to May 5 (5.1 ip)...picked up the win in consecutive outings on May 1 at Boston and May 4 at Tampa Bay, tossing a scoreless inning in each outing...first batters faced were 1 for their last 11 and he made his final appearance on May 14 against Kansas City (1.0 ip, 3 h, 2 r, 2 er)...was placed on the DL on May 22 retroactive to May 15, his second career stint on the DL...made one rehab start at Single-A Stockton on May 28 (1.0 ip, 1 so) before returning to the DL...Dr. Thomas Byrd in Nashville, Tennessee performed surgery on the hip on July 11 and Duchscherer was transferred to the 60-day DL the next day...missed the A's final 125 games.
2006
Duchscherer missed 42 games when he was on the disabled list, but was very productive as the A's setup man during 53 appearances. He stepped in as the closer when Huston Street went on the DL with a pulled groin, and he finished the season with a career-high nine saves. The first batters he faced went 6-for-52 (.115), for third best in Oakland history. Duchscherer issued nine walks in 55 2/3 innings, 1.46 per nine innings, which ranked third lowest among American League relievers. He allowed a .244 opponents batting average and a .175 opponents batting average with runners in scoring position.
2005
Was named to his first American League All-Star team as the A's lone representative after an outstanding first half of the season but did not pitch in the game...went 4-1 with four saves and a 1.49 ERA (8 er in 48.1 ip) in 35 games before the All-Star Break and then went 3- 3 with one save and a 3.13 ERA (13 er in 37.1 ip) in 30 outings after the break...was a combined 7-4 with five saves, two blown saves and a 2.21 ERA in 65 relief appearances overall...the saves were the first of his career...also had career highs in appearances and strikeouts (85) and matched his best in wins...his ERA and .215 opponents batting average were the lowest of his career...ranked second among American League relievers in innings pitched (85.2), tied for fourth in wins, fifth in strikeouts and sixth in ERA...had the best strikeout to walk ratio among AL relievers (4.47 to 1) and the fifth fewest walks per nine innings (2.00)...allowed 48.4% (15 of 31) of his inherited runners to score which tied for fourth highest in the AL...his 182.0 innings pitched over the last two years are second most among AL relievers to Scot Shields (197.0)...his .215 opponents batting average broke down to .225 (31 for 138) against left-handed hitters and .208 (36 for 173) against right-handers...however, his opponents average increased to .324 (22 for 68) with runners in scoring position after allowing a .194 average with RISP in 2004...first batters faced were 16 for 61 (.262) with three walks...compiled a 1.23 ERA (3 er in 22.0 ip) and .173 (13 for 75) opponents batting average in 16 outings when pitching on no days rest and a 2.54 ERA (18 er in 63.2 ip) and .229 (54 for 236) opponents average in his other 49 outings...posted a 1.93 ERA (11 er in 51.1 ip) in 38 outings and night compared to a 2.62 ERA (10 er in 34.1 ip) in 27 outings during the day...allowed a .321 (34 for 106) average to the opponents five, six and seven hitters and .161 (33 for 205) against the rest of the batting order...had three months with an ERA under 2.00, posting a 0.57 ERA in 15.2 innings in April, 1.56 in 17.1 innings in June and 1.72 in 15.2 innings in August...now has a 1.08 ERA (3 er in 25.0 ip) in 14 career outings in April...did not allow a run in four outings against Tampa Bay and has not allowed a run in eight career outings (14.2 innings) against the Devil Rays...tossed at least one inning in 57 of his 65 appearances, including two or more 16 times...did not allow an earned run in 28 of his 31 outings over the first three months of the season but then allowed at least one in 10 of his 34 outings from July 1 until the end of the season...picked up the win in consecutive games on April 26 and 27 against Chicago to become the first A's pitcher to win consecutive team games since Billy Koch won three straight from September 1-4, 2002...the victories extended his career high tying winning streak to four consecutive games dating back to September 13, 2004...won back-to-back games again on August 10 and 11 against Los Angeles...did not pitch over a 12-game stretch from May 10 to 24 because of back problems...had a 0.96 ERA (3 er in 28.0 ip) ERA over his first 21 outings before allowing three runs in 2.0 innings on June 11 at Atlanta...was charged with his first loss and blown save of the season in that game...had a season best 12.2-inning scoreless streak from June 11 to July 2...had a stint as the A's closer during that stretch while Huston Street was sidelined by a strained left hamstring from June 15 to 27...recorded four saves in five chances over that span, including his first Major League save on June 18 against Philadelphia...appeared in the 100th game of his career on July 20 at Los Angeles...had his ERA under 2.00 as late as August 29 when it was 1.77...then allowed three runs in 0.1 innings on September 3 against New York to up his ERA to 2.14...posted a 4.97 ERA (7 er in 12.2 ip) in 12 outings in September...struck out four batters in 2.1 innings on September 16 at Boston, matching his most strikeouts in his career as a reliever...struck out four again in his final outing on October 2 at Seattle (2.0 ip).
2004
Was the long man in the A's bullpen as he tossed 96.1 innings in 53 appearances, all in relief...ranked second among American League relievers in innings pitched (Shields, ANA 105.1) and had the most innings pitched by an A's reliever since Doug Jones tossed 104.0 innings in 1999...tossed two or more innings in 22 of his 53 outings, including three or more nine times...tossed a season high 5.0 innings three times: April 23 vs. Anaheim, May 11 at Detroit and August 27 against Tampa Bay...those were the longest outings by an A's reliever since Erik Hiljus tossed 5.0 innings on July 24, 2001 against Minnesota...was 7-6 with two blown saves and a 3.27 ERA...tied for fourth among AL relievers in wins and was tied for fifth in losses...tied for the lead among AL rookies in ERA (Madritsch, SEA), ranked third in wins, sixth in innings pitched, seventh in appearances and ninth in strikeouts (59)...allowed 12 of 42 (28.6%) inherited runners to score and first batters faced were 14 for 46 (.304) with five walks, a hit by pitch and a sacrifice fly...opponents batted .241 which broke down to .247 (42 for 170) against left-handers and .235 (43 for 183) against right-handers...his opponents average dropped to .194 (14 for 72) with runners in scoring position, including .108 (4 for 37) with RISP and two outs...posted an ERA under 2.00 in three months as he had a 1.93 ERA in April, 1.06 in May and 1.83 in July...posted a 2.81 ERA over the first four months of the season but then had a combined 4.18 ERA the rest of the way...allowed 5 of 25 (20.0%) inherited runners to score over the first four months of the season and 7 of 17 (41.2%) to score the rest of the way...allowed five home runs in 64.0 innings over the first four months of the season but then allowed eight in 32.1 innings the rest of the way...balked in the winning run in the bottom of the 14th inning in the A's 2-1 loss at Seattle on April 19...did not allow a run in 11 of his first 15 outings through June 6...had a career high 13.1 inning scoreless streak from May 7 to 29 (6 h, 5 bb, 12 so)...had not allowed a home run over his first 15 games and 34.0 innings before allowing two on June 9 against Cincinnati...had his first blown save of the season on June 15 at St. Louis...won his fourth consecutive decision on July 3 at San Francisco, giving him a career high winning streak that began on May 11...stranded all 13 of his inherited runners over a 14 game stretch from July 3 to August 12.
2003
Was named Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Year after posting a 14-2 record and a 3.25 ERA in 24 games, 23 starts, at Triple-A Sacramento...led the PCL in wins and ranked fourth in ERA...made one postseason start for the River Cats before he was recalled to Oakland on September 8...was placed in the A's starting rotation and went 1-1 with a 3.31 ERA in four games, three starts...made his A's debut on September 9, the same day his wife Michele gave birth to the couple's first child in Trenton, New Jersey...tossed a career high seven shutout innings and allowed just four hits while walking two and striking out a career high six...picked up the win in the A's 8-1 victory over Anaheim...left prior to the end of the game to join his wife in New Jersey and returned to the A's for a start in Texas on September 14, a no decision...spent the entire regular season at Sacramento and led the River Cats in wins and ERA while ranking second in games started (23), innings (155.0) and strikeouts (117)...ranked second in the A's farm system in wins and was seventh in ERA...walked just 18 batters in 155.0 innings for an average of 1.05 per nine innings...struck out 117 for a strikeout to walk ratio of 6.5 to 1...finished the regular season with an 11-game winning streak, posting a 3.97 ERA over a 14-start stretch dating back to June 13...then made one postseason start for the River Cats on September 3 in Game 1 of the PCL Semi-Finals at Edmonton...was the winning pitcher in Sacramento's 16-2 win (6.0 ip, 1 h, 1 bb, 4 so)...was named to the PCL squad for the Triple-A All-Star Game and was the starting pitcher...had a no decision in a 13-9 loss to the International League, allowing two runs and two hits in 2.0 innings...the River Cats were 5-3 in his no decisions and 18-5 in his starting assignments...tossed seven or more innings in 10 of his 23 starts, allowed three runs or fewer 18 times and never walked more than two batters in a game...had nine starts without a walk and 12 others with just one...was a perfect 10-0 with a 3.20 ERA in 14 games, 13 starts at Sacramento's home ballpark, Raley Field...allowed a .254 opponents batting average which broke down to .246 (69 for 280) against lefthanders and .261 (82 for 314) against right-handers...was named PCL Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 28 to May 4 after defeating Memphis on May 2 (8.0 ip, 2 h, 3 so)...was on the disabled list from May 21 to 29 with a sprained left ankle...posted a 4-0 record in the month of August but had a 4.71 ERA, his highest for any month of the season...his best ERA came in April when he was 1-0 with a 1.04 ERA in four games...pitched for the USA Olympic Qualifying Team following the season and was 1-1 with a 3.21 ERA in four games, three starts, during an exhibition schedule in the Arizona Fall League...did not pitch during the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Panama.
2002
Was limited to just 14 appearances in his first season in the A's organization as he spent three months of the season on the disabled list...was disabled from April 27 to June 30 and August 5 to September 9, both times with a strained lower back...was 2-4 with a 5.57 ERA in 14 games, 11 starts...recorded all of his decisions and posted a 6.00 ERA in his l1 starts, compared to a 3.00 ERA in three relief appearances... tossed exactly 3.0 innings in each of his three relief appearances and five or more innings in just six of his 11 starts...opponents hit .283 but that jumped to .418 with runners in scoring position...had a 3.58 ERA and .234 opponents batting average in innings one through three and a 7.71 ERA and .331 opponents batting average from the fourth inning on...was in the Texas Rangers camp during spring training but was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma on March 11 before appearing in a spring game...was dealt to the A's on March 18 for Luis Vizcaino and opened the year at Triple-A Sacramento...made five starts in April before his first stint on the disabled list and was 0-2 with a 7.40 ERA...made one start following his return from the disabled list on June 29 in the second game of a doubleheader at Portland (5.0 ip, 1 h, 1 r, 1 er, 1 bb, 3 so, 1 hr) but was moved to the bullpen following that outing...made three relief appearances from July 2 to 11 and was moved back into the starting rotation on July 15...went 2-2 with a 5.72 ERA (18 er in 28.1 ip) over his final five starts before finishing the season on the disabled list.
2001
Was 1-1 with an 8.71 ERA in two starts and 0-0 with a 20.77 ERA in three relief appearances in two stints with the Rangers...was purchased from Tulsa on July 23 and made his Major League debut in a start on July 25 (game 1) versus Baltimore...was a 6-5 winner (6.2 ip, 6 h, 4 r, 4 er, 1 bb, 5 so) to become just the second Texas pitcher in the last eight years to win a start in his first big league game...was optioned to Oklahoma between games of that doubleheader... was recalled by Texas on September 4 and had an 18.00 ERA (16 er in 8.0 ip) in four games...lost his only start on September 25 vs. Seattle and tied a club record by hitting three batters in that game...in three relief appearances, he stranded his only inherited runner and first batters were 1 for 3...opponents hit .353, including .375 by left-handed batters and .321 by right-handers...combined to go 13-6 with a 2.47 ERA with 176 strikeouts in 25 starts for Trenton, Tulsa, and Oklahoma...set pro career highs for innings (167.2) and strikeouts...held the opposition to a .218 batting average...began the season with Boston's Trenton club and had the Eastern League's sixth lowest ERA (2.44) at the time of the trade...was traded to the Texas organization on June 12 and went 4-0 with a 2.08 ERA in six starts at Tulsa...was sent to Oklahoma after his July 25 start in Texas...at the end of Rangers' season, he joined Peoria in the Arizona Fall League and was 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA (3 er in 18.0 ip) and 23 strikeouts in six starts.
2000
Spent the entire season at Trenton, tying for third in the Eastern League in shutouts (2) and compiling the ninth lowest ERA (3.39)...had the league's fifth best ratios for fewest walks (2.13) and baserunners (10.99) per nine innings...led the Thunder in starts (24), shutouts (2), innings (143.1), and strikeouts (126) and tied for first in wins (7) and complete games (2)...was selected as Trenton's pitcher of the year.
