Joshua S. Whitesell (Josh)...pitched and played 1B for Loyola Marymount (CA) University...as junior, led LMU with 15 homers and 47 RBI and was named 2nd-team All-WCC...graduated from Rialto (CA) High with a 4.2 GPA.
2009
In most extensive big league action to date, posted a .346 OBP in 46 games/2 stints with ARI, thanks largely to 24 walks in just 133 plate appearances...displayed patience, seeing 4.28 pitches per plate appearance...hit .306 (11-for-36) with RISP...while with Triple-A Reno, hit .421 with RISP and .366 with runners on base.
2008
Named the D-backs' Minor League Player of the Year after batting .328 with 26 home runs and 110 RBI in 127 games at Tucson (AAA)...among Pacific Coast League batters, was second in RBI, third in on-base percentage (.425), fourth in batting average and OPS (.993), tied for fourth in hits, tied for fifth in doubles, eighth in slugging percentage (.568) and 11th in homers...Had a season-high 7 RBI on May 23 vs. Sacramento, going 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored, a double and 2 home runs...Hit safely in a career-high 19 straight games from June 27-July 18, batting .384 (28-for- 73)...it was the longest streak by a Sidewinders player and tied for the fourth longest in the PCL in 2008...also hit safely in 16 straight games from July 23-Aug. 9, batting .525 (31-for-59) with 10 multi-hit games and 24 RBI...Recalled from Tucson when the roster expanded on Sept. 2 and made his big league debut that night vs. St. Louis, striking out as a pinch-hitter in his first at-bat...Made his first Major League start at first base on Sept. 15 vs. San Francisco and hit a single off the Giants' Brad Hennessey in the seventh inning for his first career hit...Hit his first Major League home run off the Rockies' Steven Register as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning on Sept. 21 at Colorado.

Mid-season Eastern League All-Star hit .284 with 21 home runs, 74 RBI and a .425 on-base percentage in 119 games with Harrisburg...ranked among EL leaders in OBP (2nd), walks (3rd, 87), slugging percentage (tied for 5th, .512) and homers (9th)...led Washington farmhands in walks and OBP...was named MVP by the Senators' front office in conjunction with Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame...in Baseball America's "Best Tools" survey of league managers, was named the EL's Best Defensive 1B...also recognized by BA's "Best Tools" survey as having the Best Strike-Zone Discipline among Nationals farmhands...garnered Harrisburg Player of the Month honors for both April (.354, 4 homers, 10 RBI) and May (.425 OBP, 9 doubles, 2 homers, 16 RBI)...hit .300 with 16 home runs against opposing right-handed pitchers... went 5-for-5 with 2 doubles, a homer and 5 RBI on April 13 vs. Erie...in the 2nd game of a June 20 doubleheader vs. Bowie, clubbed 2- and 3-run home runs.

In first taste of Double-A, finished 2nd among Harrisburg hitters-behind only Kory Casto-in batting (.264), home runs (19) and RBI (56)...ranked among Washington minor league leaders in OBP (2nd, .354), games (3rd, 127), home runs (4th) and walks (4th, 53)...in June, hit .338 with 7 home runs and 14 RBI in 27 games.

Hit .293 with 18 homers, 66 RBI and a .416 OBP in 113 games with Single-A Potomac of the Carolina League... ranked among league leaders in OBP (3rd), walks (4th, 74), slugging percentage (5th, .524), homers (9th) and batting (10th).

Spent entire season with Savannah of the Single-A South Atlantic League, batting .250 with 16 home runs and 54 RBI in 113 games overall...hit 7 home runs in 19 games during the month of June...posted first multi-career homer game, clubbing 3 home runs on June 2 at Rome.
