Joshua Paul Newman...signed June 11, 2004 by Ed Santa...enjoys boating and fishing...was a *USA Today* High School All-American at Wheelersburg (Ohio) High School...was first team all-state twice and a two-time team MVP...was a three-time all-conference selection and SE Ohio District Player of the Year...was also first team all-state in football and SE Ohio Defensive Player of the Year.
2007
After spending the entire season at Triple-A Colorado Springs, Newman made his Major League debut with two relief appearances in mid-September...was added to the Major League roster on Sept. 8 and made his ML debut on Sept. 12 at Philadelphia, tossing a perfect ninth inning in Colorado's 12-0 win...only other appearance came on Sept. 15, allowing one run on two hits in the ninth inning of the Rockies' 10-2 defeat vs. Florida...did strikeout two of his five batters faced...prior to those two relief appearances, spent the entire season with the Sky Sox, his first full season at the Triple-A level...posted a 3-2 record with a 4.06 ERA (62.0 ip, 28 er) in 55 relief appearances...registered 49 strikeouts against 30 walks and went 0-for-2 in save opportunities...allowed 12 of 34 inherited runners to score...held left-handed batters at a .189 (18-for-95) average against and right-handers at .355 (55-for-155)...went 2-0, 1.86 (9.2 ip, 2 er) in nine games over the month of April...was unscored upon in 34 of 55 games...allowed just three or more runs in four contests...tossed season-high 2.2 innings on two occasions: July 16 vs. Sacramento and Aug. 6 at Albuquerque...posted a 6.05 ERA (19.1 ip, 13 er) over his final 17 games to rise from 3.16 to 4.06.
2006
Made his Double-A debut and spent the entire season with Tulsa...went 9-5, 3.16 (77.0 ip, 27 er) with two saves in 62 relief appearances for the Drillers...opponents batted just .204 (56-for-274), the fourth-lowest average against any qualifying reliever in the league...averaged just 9.70 baserunners per nine innings, the lowest figure for any Texas League relief pitcher...converted two of five save opportunities...led the Texas League in games and ranked first on Drillers' staff in wins, innings, and strikeouts (77)...finished 22 games and recorded 16 holds...lefties hit just .181 (21-for-116)...was unscored upon in 50 of 62 relief outings...three of his eight HR allowed came in one outing on July 1 (2) at Arkansas...tossed 2.0 or more innings on 11 occasions...opposition hit .148 (9-for-61) with runners in scoring position...named to the Texas League midseason All-Star team after going 4-2 with one save and a 1.52 ERA (41.1 ip, 7 er) in 31 games...pitched 1.0 scoreless inning of relief in the All-Star game, allowing one hit with one strikeout on June 20 in Little Rock, Ark...logged 23.2 consecutive scoreless innings spanning 19 games from April 23-June 3...lowered season ERA from 4.91 to 1.56 during that stretch...appeared in three playoff games, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
2005
Spent entire season Modesto of the Cal League, going 5-2 with a 3.13 ERA (63.1 ip, 22 er) and 99 strikeouts in 41 relief appearances...ranked fourth on club with 16 games finished...opponents batted just .198 (45-for-227), third-lowest mark against any Cal League reliever...averaged 14.07 strikeouts per 9 innings, 2nd-best among league relievers behind only Stockton's Connor Robertson (14.46)...opponents were just 2-for-21 (.095) with RISP and 2 outs...earned first victory of season after tossing season-high 4.0 innings on June 10 vs. Lake Elsinore...recorded season-high seven K's in that outing...also had four other games with six strikeouts, this despite pitching more than 3.0 innings on just two occasions all year...had 23 K's in his final four regular season games spanning 10.2 innings, retiring 23 of his 44 batters faced in that span (52.3%) on strikeouts...compiled a 2.17 ERA (29.0 ip, 7 er) in his final 21 outings...over a span of 29 appearances from May 13-Aug. 22, allowed just one home run in 40.2 innings...appeared in two postseason contests.

Made his pro debut with Casper, going 1-2, 3.48 (33.2 ip, 13 er) in 27 relief outings...led Pioneer League with 27 appearances...allowed 2nd-fewest baserunners per nine innings among league relievers (10.16) and posted third-highest strikeouts per nine innings average (12.30)...did not allow a home run final 21 games and 26.2 innings...had a 1.74 ERA through Aug. 28 before allowing nine runs (seven earned) in final three outings and 2.2 innings to end the year...collected first save on Aug. 6 vs. Ogden.
