Appeared in one game for the Padres (4 ER in 0.1 IP)...Began the season on the 15-day injured list (strained left rotator cuff) and made his season debut with Triple-A El Paso on May 9...In 22 games with El Paso, went 1-3 with two saves, a 9.82 ERA (20 ER in 18.1 IP) and 22 strikeouts before being designated for assignment in late July...Traded to the Marlins for cash considerations and spent the rest of the season with Triple-A Jacksonville...Went 3-1 with a 5.59 ER (12 ER in 19.1 IP) and 26 strikeouts in 14 games with Jacksonville...Pitched in his third season with Magallanes of the Venezuelan Winter League and went 0-1 with a 2.28 ERA (6 ER in 23.2 IP) and 25 strikeouts in 22 games...Signed by the D-backs as a Minor League free agent in December.

Made one appearance at the big league level for San Diego in Game 1 of their doubleheader on Aug. 24 @ CLE... allowed one run (earned) in 1.0 inning of work with a punch-out and one walk allowed...Was recalled by the Padres in a corresponding move for Yu Darvish being placed on the Paternity List...was optioned back to Triple-A El Paso on Aug. 26...His ML appearance on Aug. 24 was his 1st at the big league level since Aug. 8, 2019...After starting the season with Single-A Lake Elsinore and allowing just one unearned run in five appearances and 5.1 innings pitched, Castillo was promoted to Triple-A El Paso, progressing from his elbow reconstruction surgery...In 43 appearances for the Chihuahuas, Castillo posted a 2.91 ERA (14 ER, 43.1 IP) with 58 strikeouts against 20 walks.

Placed on the 60-Day Injured List on March 1 after suffering a left forearm flexor strain...made 9 rehab appearances (2 starts) between El Paso (AAA), Lake Elsinore (A) and AZL Padres 1, posting a 4.50 ERA with a .172 opponent AVG and 18 SO...Reinstated from the IL on August 8 and made his season debut that same day vs. COL, tossing 0.2 scoreless innings with 2 SO and 1 BB before leaving the game with an injury...Placed on the 10-Day IL on August 9 with an eventual season-ending torn ligament in his left hand...transferred to the 60-day IL on Sept. 2.

Split the season between San Antonio (AA), El Paso (AAA) and SD, making his ML debut on 6/2 and recording 37 appearances out of the SD bullpen...Made 12 appearances out of the SA bullpen to begin the season, posting a 3.00 ERA (5 ER, 15.0 IP) with five saves before being promoted to ELP on 5/14...His only earned run with ELP came in his AAA debut on 5/14 at Reno…did not allow an earned run across his next nine outings (10.1 IP) with three saves before earning his first call up to the big leagues on 6/2...Became the third pitcher in SD history to strike out the first three batters he faced in his ML debut on 6/2 vs. CIN (also: Jeremy Fikac in 2001 and Tommy Layne in 2012)...
