His .220 opponents batting average was a career best and his 50 appearances ranked fifth on the team. Was placed on the 15-day disabled list from 5/12-29 with right shoulder inflammation. Made one scoreless rehabilitation appearance with Triple-A Gwinnett (1.0 IP, 1 K). From 5/29 to 9/13, he pitched to a 1.95 ERA over 34 outings, with 36 strikeouts over 32.1 innings. Allowed one earned run in his postseason debut on 10/3 vs. LAD. Appeared in a total of two games and allowed four runs over 2.2 innings while fanning three in the NLDS against the Dodgers.
2012
Acquired by the Braves from the Angels in exchange for RHP Tommy Hanson on 11/30. At home, went 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA with 27 strikeouts. On the road compiled a 5.60 ERA. Had a stellar month of May, allowing just one earned run in 12.1 innings (0.73 ERA) with 12 strikeouts in 12 relief appearances.
On the 15-day disabled list from 7/9-8/15 with a strained right biceps. He made three rehabilitation appearances with Salt Lake (AAA).
