Resides in Dallas, TX during the off-season...As a senior at Sam Houston State University in 2003, he finished 4-7 with a 5.62 ERA (75.1IP/47ER) in 17 games (15 games started) to earn Third-Team All-Southland Conference honors...Pitched for Phoenix in the Arizona Fall League following the 2006 season, posting a 1-2 record and 2.63 ERA (24.0IP/7ER) in six starts -- tied for third in the league with 24.0 innings pitched...Recommended/signed by Tim Grieve for the Tigers.
2007
Pitched the majority of the season with Triple A Toledo, with the exception of a three-start stint with the Tigers...Began the season on Toledo's disabled list, missing nearly two months as he was sidelined April 5-May 30 with a right shoulder strain...Won three straight decisions for the Mud Hens June 20-July 6, posting a 3.00 ERA (27.0IP/9ER) over the fourstart stretch...Compiled a 1-2 record and 2.73 ERA (33.0IP/10ER) in five starts during July -- 14th in the International League with a 2.73 ERA during the month...Recalled by the Tigers from Toledo on July 30 -- made his first major league start that night at Oakland and he earned his first major league win as he allowed two runs in seven innings of work...Optioned to Toledo by the Tigers on August 11...Fanned 20 batters over his final three starts with the Mud Hens August 22-September 1, posting a 1-2 record and 2.29 ERA (19.2IP/5ER)...Fared better against lefthanded hitters in the International League, limiting them to a .190 batting average (33x174)...righties hit .262 (34x130) with Tata on the mound...Suffered the loss in his only start for Toledo during the International League playoffs, allowing six runs in five innings of work.

Earned Tigers Minor League Pitcher of the Year and Florida State League Pitcher of the Year honors for his efforts with Single A Lakeland...Selected to the Florida State League's mid- and postseason all-star squads...Led the league with 13 wins and an .867 winning percentage, while he tied for the league lead with two shutouts, tied for second with two complete games, tied for fourth with 134 strikeouts, finished fourth with 155.0 innings pitched, fifth with a 2.79 ERA and tied for fifth with 25 games started...tied for the league lead among pitchers with 44 total chances and 20 putouts...Posted a 1-0 record and 1.59 ERA (22.2IP/4ER) in four starts during April...Fanned a season-best nine batters in a no-decision on May 18 vs. Vero Beach -- equaled the high with nine strikeouts in a win at Clearwater on August 10...Struck out 38 batters in six starts during May, compiling a 3-1 record and 2.48 ERA (40.0IP/11ER)...limited the opposition to a .199 batting average (29x146) during the month...Won his final seven decisions of the season July 7- August 26, compiling a 1.88 ERA (57.1IP/12ER) and 56 strikeouts over a nine-start stretch...Did not allow a run over 23.0 innings during a fourstart stretch July 28-August 16...Made two starts during the Florida State League playoffs, winning both as he fired 14.0 scoreless innings -- fanned 18 batters during the two outings, while he allowed six hits and one walk...Held righthanded batters to a .233 batting average (74x317), while lefties hit .245 (64x261) with Tata on the mound...Posted a 1.50 ground ball/fly ball ratio (190 ground ball outs/127 fly ball outs)...Named the seventh-best prospect in the Tigers organization and 10th-best prospect in the Florida State League following the season by
