John Mabry #47

John Mabry is beginning his fourth year as the team's hitting coach after being named to that position on November 5, 2012. He was assistant hitting coach to Mark McGwire during the 2012 campaign. The duo helped guide a Cardinals offense that led the league in 2012 in both runs scored and on-base pct., while finishing a close second in batting average. In 2013, the Cardinals batted .330 with runners in scoring position, the top mark in the majors dating to 1974. Mabry, 45, was drafted by St. Louis in the sixth round of the June 1991 draft and played 14 seasons in the majors, including three stints with the Cardinals. He made his Major League debut in 1994 and put up some of his best offensive numbers with the Cardinals from 1995 - 1998. He hit a career high .307 in 1995 and during the 1996 season played in a career high 151 games, hitting .297 with a career high 161 hits, collected 13 homers and 74 RBI as the Cardinals advanced to the NLCS. In addition to playing with the Cardinals, his Major League career included playing time with eight Major League teams and ended in 2007 with the Colorado Rockies. Before joining the Cardinals staff as a coach, Mabry assisted the team in various community relations initiatives, including the team's "Doin' it Right" school program from 2010-2011. A native of Delaware, he graduated in 1988 from Bohemia Manor (Md.) High School where he played football, baseball and basketball; and was drafted out of West Chester (Pa.) University. Mabry was named the Cardinals Rookie of the Year for 1995 by the St. Louis chapter of the BBWAA. He and his wife, Ann, make their home in St. Louis with their four children: J.T., Danielle, Nicole and Samantha.

1991

Batted .286 in 71 combined games for Hamilton (A) and Savannah (A) after being selected in the sixth round of the 1991 draft ... was a New York Penn League all-star, as he hit .310 in 49 games for Hamilton ... doubled 11 times and drove in 31 runs ... had 10 outfield assists.

1992

Hit .263 with 13 doubles, 6 triples and 11 home runs in 115 games ... drove in 57 runs and crossed the plate 63 times ... recorded 14 outfield appearances.

1993

Spent the majority of the season at Double-A, batting .290 with 32 doubles, 16 homers and 72 RBI in 136 games for Arkansas (AA) ... led the Texas League in games played; ranked second in the league in total bases (237), doubles and at-bats (477); ranked third in extra-base hits (50) and ranked fifth in RBI ... also led the league with a .989 fielding percentage and was tied for third with 15 assists ... was a Double-A all-star ... was a late-season promotion to Louisville (AAA), seeing action in four games.

1994

Was called up to the big leagues, making his major league debut April 23 ... went 7-for-23 with 3 RBI in his first six big league games ... recorded his first big league hit that same day, hitting an RBI-double off Houston's Darryl Kile ... batted .262 with 30 doubles, 15 homers and 68 RBI in 122 games for Louisville (AAA).

1995

Returned to Seattle and batted .212 with 9 extra-base hits and 16 RBI in 64 games ... signed with the Mariners as a free agent on January 16 ... had his greatest success of the season in August, going 9-for-26 with 3 RBI ... made 23 total starts at four spots, starting seven games in left field, seven games as the designated hitter, six games at first base and three games in right field ... spent a month on the disabled list with a strained lastissimus dorsi tendon ... batted .364 in three rehabilitation appearances at Tacoma (AAA).

2002
