The versatile McEwing fractured his left fibula on Aug. 19 in Colorado and missed the final seven weeks of the season. McEwing hit .254 with 16 RBIs through 75 games. He played every position in the infield as well as seeing time in the outfield. His 34 games at second base represented his most at one position.
2003
Tied his career-high, done 15 previous times, with three hits (3-4, two doubles, a single and a walk) on July 22nd at Philadelphia....Also had three hits, on May 10th vs. San Diego...Over his final 14 games of the year with an at-bat, Joe went 13-45 (.289)...Had 13 multi-hit contests on the season, 11 games with two hits and two games with three hits...Knocked in two runs at St. Louis on May 1st...Hit .307 (35-114) in 39 day games.

Cracked a three-run home run in the seventh inning off Mike Hampton to give the Mets a 4-3 triumph over Colorado on May 11th at home.
Started at third base on May 18th at San Diego, making team history by becoming the first Met to start at seven different positions in one season...Joe played every position except catcher and pitcher...Kevin Mitchell started at six different positions in 1986.
