COACHING CAREER
Begins his second season as the White Sox hitting coach ... under his direction, the Sox increased their offensive output in virtually every category from 2011 ... chicago ranked third in the major leagues in home runs (211) and home runs at home (120), seventh in runs scored (748) and eighth in slugging percentage (.422) ... 211 home runs were the eighth-highest total in franchise history, and the 120 homers at U.S.. Cellular Field were seventh-most in Sox history ... the Sox featured fi ve players with 25 or more home runs for just the second time in franchise history (2002) ... Adam Dunn was named al comeback player of the year by The Sporting News after hitting 41 home runs with 96 rBi, 105 walks and 87 runs scored ... alex rios was one of two players in the major leagues (ryan Braun) to hit .300 with at least 30 doubles, 25 home runs, 90 rBi, 20 stolen bases and 300 total bases ... Magglio Ordonez (2001) was the only other player in White Sox history to post those numbers ... spent the 2008-11 seasons as the Sox minor-league hitting coordinator ... during his four years in the player development system, worked with Gordon Beckham, Alejandro de Aza, Tyler Flowers, Brent Morel and Dayan Viciedo ... spent five seasons (2003-07) in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, including the last two as hitting coach at the major-league level (2006-07) ... under his direction, Freddy Sanchez captured the franchise's 25th batting championship in 2006, leading the national league with a .344 average ... spent 2002 as manager of class a Lakewood (Phillies), going 69-70.
PLAYING CAREER
Played nine major-league seasons with Cleveland (1990-91, '97-99), Philadelphia (1993), Baltimore (1995), Boston (1996), Seattle (1996), Detroit (1998), the Yankees (1999) and Colorado (2000) ... was a career .230 (164-713) hitter with 31 home runs and 97 rBi in 289 games ... his best season came with Baltimore in 1995 when he batted .256 (65-254) with 17 home runs and 38 rBi in 89 games ... homered in four consecutive atbats with the Orioles from 6/8-10/95 ... also played 10 games with the Yomiuri Giants of the Japanese central league in 1996 ... was selected by California in the 14th round of the 1985 draft.
MISCELLANEOUS/PERSONAL
Married Denise ... has three children: Gabrielle, Andreana and Jeffrey ... was inducted into the Pennsylvania State Hall of Fame on 11/10/12 ... attended Temple University ... is a 1982 graduate of Bristol (PA.) High School.
