In 1984 graduated from Eisenhower High School in Rialto, California...from 1985-87 pitched at UCLA and in his 3 seasons there went 5-4, 6.06 with 2 saves...is a world class racquetball player...won the 1985 Junior National Championships and has participated in several professional racquetball tournaments... at the 1993 U.S. Racquetball Doubles Championships in Phoenix finished third with his wife, Cindy, as his partner...at the 1999 U.S. National Doubles Racquetball Championships in Baltimore, Jeff and Cindy won the 25-and-over mixed doubles title, while Jeff placed second with partner Steve Lerner in the men's 30-and-over division finals...Cindy is a 2-time national doubles champion and won the silver medal in women's doubles at the 1993 U.S. Olympic Festival in San Antonio...Jeff and Cindy are co-founders of the Conine All-Star Classic, a celebrity golf tournament that raises money for the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in Hollywood, Florida...in November 2003 the hospital honored Jeff and Cindy by dedicating "Conine's Clubhouse," a 24-hour facility to accommodate families whose children are patients in the hospital...is active in fundraisers for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation...was the Orioles' 2002 Roberto Clemente Award nominee for his contributions to his community. Combined to hit .282 with 20hr and 95rbi in 149g for the Orioles and Marlins...led the Major Leagues with 13 sac flies...reached base safely in 123 of his 149 apps (83%)...began the season with the Orioles and hit .290 with 15hr and 80rbi in 124g as their everyday first baseman...appeared in 114 of Bal's first 116g, then missed 10g in August with bursitis in his right biceps muscle...on 8/7 vs Min collected his 1,500th career hit... was traded to Fla on 8/31 and for the second time in 6 seasons helped lead the Marlins to the World Series championship...the Marlins went 18-7 (.720) after he was acquired...during the September pennant race hit .364 (3hr, 10rbi) in 6g vs the National League East rival Phillies...during the playoffs hit safely in 14 of Fla's 17g, led the Marlins with a .367 average and tied for the team lead in hits (22) and walks (9)...produced an 8-game post-season hitting streak (.462)...threw out SF's J.T. Was named the Orioles' Most Valuable Player by the local media...led the club in htting (.311), RBI (97), runs scored (75) and multi-hit games (44)...ranked among the American League leaders in hitting with RISP (.400, 3rd), hitting with runners on base (.352, 5th) and overall batting average (.311, 10th)...reached base safely in 121 of his 139 apps (87%)...started games at DH, 1B, 3B, LF and RF...hit 2 of the club's 3 grand slams...on 8/19 at Bos produced his first career 5-hit game and his first career 2-steal game...from 5/10-5/30 had a career-high 14-game hitting streak (.426, 2hr, 15rbi).

Because of injuries appeared in only 93g...hit .319 with RISP...on 5/22 at Tex hit his 100th career home run (off John Wetteland).
1997
Appeared in 151g in helping the Marlins win their first World Series championship...on 4/17 vs StL hit a pinch-hit, walkoff HR off Mark Petkovsek...was his first career pinch-hit homer and his first career walkoff homer... on 8/28 at Chi entered the game as a defensive replacement but still tied career highs with 2hr and 5rbi.
1996
Collected 175 hits, surpassing his own Marlins team record of 174 (1993)...for the second straight season set franchise records for extra-base hits (60) and total bases (289)...ranked second on the club with 26 homers, a career high, and 95rbi...hit 8 homers in May, a club record.

For the second straight season was a National League All-Star and the club's Most Valuable Player as voted by the local chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America...established club records with 105rbi, 53 extra-base hits and 251 total bases...was MVP of the All-Star Game after hitting the game-winning home run in the eighth inning off Oak's Steve Ontiveros...became the 10th player to homer in his first All-Star Game plate appearance and the first player selected in an expansion draft to win the MVP...led the National League with 12 sac flies and ranked among the leaders in RBI (T4th) and slugging percentage (.520, 9th)... was NL Player of the Month for June (.340, 6 2b, 9hr, 24rbi), the first Marlins player ever to win the monthly award...on 5/29 missed his first game for the Marlins, snapping his streak of 307 consecutive games played since the start of the franchise (291 starts)...was the longest appearance streak at the start of any expansion club in history.

Made his Major League debut by walking as a pinch-hitter on 9/16, the same day he was called up by the Royals...Made his 1st start on 9/17 at Minnesota and collected his 1st hit off Larry Casian.
