Full name is Jarrod Zane Patterson...was a 1991 graduate of Chilton County High School in Clanton, Ala....played two seasons at Jefferson Davis Community College in Alabama...resides in Birmingham, Ala., with his wife Britt and two sons.
2003
Signed as a Minor League free agent on Nov. 16, 2002...was named Player of the Year for the club's
Triple A affiliate in Omaha after hitting .257 and pacing the club with 18 home runs on the season and ranking
among the league leaders with 33 doubles and 91 RBI.
Saw limited action with the big league club, batting .182 in 13 games.
Contract purchased from Omaha on July 3...was hitting .259 with 23 doubles, 13 home runs and 65 RBI at
the time of his promotion.
Made his Royals debut in KC's 9-8 win over Detroit on July 4...was hitless in 3 at bats with 1 walk as
the starting designated hitter.
Picked up his 1st hit of the year on July 9 at Anaheim with a 9th inning single off of Troy Percival.
Optioned to Omaha on July 19 after hitting .231 (3-for-13) in 5 games with the Royals.
Rejoined the club on Sept. 2 and went 1-for-9 in 8 September games.
2002
Spent the entire season with Toledo (AAA), splitting time between 3rd base and 2nd base. Hit .295 in 117 games, logging 34 doubles, 6 triples, 13 home runs and 70 RBI.
2001
Made his Major League debut with the Tigers in his 9th professional season after signing with Detroit as a Minor League free agent.
Opened the season with Toledo and started slowly with the Mud Hens as he batted just .235 (8-34) in 14 games during April...was demoted to Erie (AA) in May and hit .400 in 20 games before returning to Toledo.
Made his Major League debut at Arizona on June 16...collected his 1st Major League hit in the 8th inning, a single against the Diamondbacks Bret Prinz.
Hit safely in each of his 1st 4 games in the Majors from June 16-19, going 6-for-15 (.400) with a homer and 2 RBI.
Drilled his 1st Major League home run, a solo shot off Arizona's Curt Schilling on June 17, as he collected a season-high 3 hits.
Optioned to Toledo on July 18, where he would spend the remainder of the season.
Played for Maryvale in the Arizona Fall League and Hermosillo in the Mexican Pacific League following the 2001 season.
2000
Opened the 2000 season with Triple A Nashville in the Pacific Coast League after signing during the off-season as a Minor League free agent with Pittsburgh.
Assigned to Double A Altoona in early June...hit .139 (5-36) in 11 games before returning to Nashville on June 20.
Acquired by the Montreal Expos from the Pirates in exchange for pitcher Matt Skrmetta on Aug. 12...assigned to Triple A Ottawa by the Expos.
1999
Turned in an outstanding 1999 season as he split the year between Double A El Paso and Triple A Tucson in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.
Was tied for the Minor League lead with Asheville's Juan Pierre with 187 hits...was 2nd in the Minors with 52 doubles, 4th with 308 total bases, tied for 4th with 77 extra-base hits and 5th with his combined .358 batting average.
1998
Named to the California League's mid- and post-season all-star squads while with Single A High Desert in 1998....paced the California League with a .551 slugging percentage.
Finished 2nd in the league with a .335 batting average and 271 total bases.
Was 3rd in the league with 165 hits, 102 RBI and 61 extra-base hits, tied for 3rd with 9 triples, 4th with a .414 on-base percentage, tied for 4th with 34 doubles and tied for 5th with 89 runs scored.
Hit for the cycle Aug. 13 at Rancho Cucamonga, finishing with 4 RBI...singled in the 1st inning, doubled and drove in a run in the 4th, belted a 2-run home run in the 7th and capped off his performance with a run-scoring triple in the 9th.
Named the TOPPS/NAPBL Player of the Month in the California League for August....earned Diamondbacks Minor League Player of the Month honors after combining to hit .375 with 6 home runs and 23 RBI in August and September.
Minor League Notes
Spent the 1997 season with Regina in the independent Prairie League...tied for the Prairie League lead with 24 doubles...finished 5th with a .363 batting average, 33 extra-base hits and 2 triples.
Struggled during the 1996 season as he split time between Single A St. Lucie and Single A Columbia in the New York Mets organization...opened the season with St. Lucie, hitting just .180 (11-61) in 17 games, including .037 (1-27) in his final 6 games before being sent to Columbia in late April.
Was named the Appalachian League MVP following a solid season with Rookie Level Kingsport in 1995...was also selected to the league's post-season all-star squad.
Paced the league with 57 RBI and 33 extra-base hits in 1995...finished second with 129 total bases, 13 home runs and a .538 slugging percentage and tied for second with 17 doubles.
Was 3rd in the league with 64 games played and 1 home run every 18.46 at-bats...finished fifth with 240 at-bats.
Posted a 15-game hitting streak July 2-18, batting .362 (21-58) with eight doubles, three triples, two home runs and 20 RBI.
