Was the 21st overall pick in the 1996 draft out of Madison County (Ga.) High School...played baseball and basketball while in high school...tossed six no-hitters over his last two seasons in high school and during his senior season was 9-1 with a 1.11ERA, 110 K's in 63.0 IP...his father, Cauthen, played baseball and basketball at the Univ. of Georgia and Jake remains an ardent follower of Georgia Bulldog athletics...Jake had signed a letter of intent at Georgia before signing with the Rockies ... participated in MLB's Rookie Development Program in January 2000...was a regular contributor to Cleveland Indians Charities, providing assistance for youth baseball and softball programs in the City of Cleveland, and participated in the Tribe's "Shop With A Pro" event...enjoys fishing in the off-season...was voted by his teammates as recipient of the Darryl Kileaward in 2012...Jakeand his wife, Heather (12/12/98), have three sons, Jacob Parker (9/27/05) , Keaton Daniels (11/15/07)and Paxton Hall(10/11/12) and one daughter,Harper Tennille(9/9/10)...the family resides in Danielsville,Ga.

Joined St. Louis in a trade deadline deal with Cleveland and pitched at the Major League level for a National League team for the first time in his career...Posted his first 30-start season since 2006; making 21 starts for Cleveland and 12 for St. Louis...Proved to be a solid starter for the Cardinals down the stretch, with quality starts in 9 of 12 starts and 18 overall. Pitched 5.0 innings or more in 29 of his 33 starts overall...Led the team with a 3-1 mark and a 2.92 ERA in Sept./Oct.. His 76.9 ground ball pct. from the time of his acquisition (7/31) led all STL starters. He tied C. 2009
Season was limited to just 3 minor league rehab starts as he rehabbed from June 2008 reconstructive right elbow surgery followed by elbow/forearm tightness during his rehab that ended his season before it began...Rehabbed in Goodyear, AZ in spring training and over the first two months of the regular season before making 2 rehab starts at AA Akron on June 6 & 12 (7.0IP, 4H, 0R)...Was shut down from throwing for 3 weeks before resuming the rehab trail and made 1 more start at Akron on August 4 before more soreness in the elbow region and was ordered to not throw for 6 weeks, effectively ending a timetable to pitch for the Indians in the regular season... Began rehabbing again in October 2009 and made 4 starts for Ponce in the Puerto Rican Winter League beginning on November 28 (13.1IP).
2008
Season was limited to just 5 starts as he spent a pair of stints on the disabled list and underwent season-ending right elbow surgery on June 12 that will push his rehab into the middle of the 2009 campaign... Placed on the 15-day DL on April 22 with a strained left intercostal as he was injured in the 7th inning of start in Minnesota on April 19...At the time of his first DL stint he was 1-2 w/a 2.73 ERA in 4 starts (29.2IP, 28H, 9ER, .255 AVG)...Made rehab starts at Lake County on May 18 (3.2IP) and at AA Akron on May 23 (6.0IP, 3H, 0R)...Activated from DL on May 28 and started that day against the Chicago White Sox (5.0IP, 5 H, 3ER), in what would be his final start of the year...DL#2- Was placed on the DL on June 3 with right elbow inflammation and was later diagnosed with a torn ligament in his throwing elbow...Underwent UCL ligament reconstruction on his right elbow in Anaheim, CAL by Dr. Lewis Yocum on June 12 that will push his rehab into mid-season of 2009... Tossed the 12th complete game of his career and the first by an Indian in 2008 in his start at the LA Angels on April 8, a 4-3 win over the Halos and Ervin Santana... Fell to 1-2 in start of April 19 in Minnesota, a 3-0 loss to the Twins and Nick Blackburn...7.0IP, 8H, 3R/ER, 1BB, 4K, HR to Morneau...Overall on the year MLB hitters batted .256 (33-129, 5HR) off him, including a mark of .238 (15-63) vs. LHH...Underwent successful right hip arthroscopic surgery in Nashville, TN by Dr. Thomas Byrd on Sept 5...Surgery did not affect his return to throw program ... Had an impressive spring, going 3-0 w/a 0.00 ERA in 5 spring starts (18.0IP, 7 H, 0R, 20K, .121 AVG AGAINST) and went 6.0IP perfect IP on March 24 vs. Atlanta...Batters were 7 for 58 against him this spring.
2007

2006

Jake turned his season around to post another solid campaign after starting the year 2-9 through June 9 (at the time the 9 losses led the Majors)...From start of June 14 thru the end of the season he was 13-6 w/a 4.20 ERA in 21 starts (135.0IP, 146H, 63ER) after starting the season 2-9...Finished the season tied for 8th in wins (15) and tied for 3rd in losses, becoming the first big league pitcher since Chuck Finley in 1996 (15-16) to win and lose 15 games...Gaylord Perry was the last Indian in 1973 (19-19)...Also finished 10th in the AL in innings pitched (210.2) and tied for 3rd in starts (34)...
