Jack Gerard Taschner (pronounced "TASH-nuhr")...Wife's name is Miriam...Has two children; son Gradin (8/16/03) and daughter Mirella (5/1/09)...Is a 1995 graduate of Horlick High School in Racine, Wisconsin...Had his Giants jersey retired by Horlick in December, 2007, becoming only the second athlete in school history to be honored (also Stanford women's basketball star Sonja Henning)...Earned a communication degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh...Posted a 13-0 record in three seasons in college to help lead the school to a trio of WIAC titles...Went 7-0 with a 1.51 ERA and 79 strikeouts over 53.2 innings in 1999.
2009
Was a member of Philadelphia's Opening Day roster after being acquired on 3/27 from San Francisco in exchange for catcher Ronny Paulino...Was scored upon once in first five appearances after allowing four runs, including two home runs, on 4/16 at Washington...Picked up lone win on 5/2 vs. New York (NL) after working 1.0 scoreless inning...Posted a 2.61 ERA (10.1ip/3er) after being scored upon twice in eight outings for the month of May...Was scored upon in three of four appearances from 6/13-25...Was designated for assignment on 7/3 and outrighted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on 7/6...Limited opposing hitters to a .213 batting average (16-for-75) while pitching with Lehigh Valley...Was charged with one earned run in eight home games as a member of the IronPigs...Recorded first of two saves with the IronPigs on 7/18 vs. Rochester...Surrendered only home run in fourth appearance with Lehigh Valley on 7/21 at Charlotte...Suffered first of two losses in backto- back appearances after allowing an unearned run on 7/30 vs. Columbus...Did not allow a run in final seven appearances (6.2ip) with Lehigh Valley...Was promoted to Philadelphia on 9/1 and made three appearances thru the remainder of the season.

4th-year big league veteran made 3rd Opening Day roster with SF and went 3-2 with 4.88 ERA (26er, 48.0ip) in career-high 67 relief appearances...was 1 of only 3 bullpen mainstays, joining Tyler Walker and Brian Wilson...had 51-scoreless outings in team-high 67 games... also led club with 57 inherited runners, 6th-most in NL...stranded 57-of-76 (75.0%) runners overall, highest pct. among SF relievers...retired 37 of 67 (55.2%) of 1st batters faced...was one of best Giants relief pitchers on road over his 1st 19 outings, allowing just 1 earned run over 14.0 innings (0.64 ERA)...was extremely tough against NL West opponents, logging 2.04 ERA (4er, 17.2ip) and .227 avg. against with 18 strikeouts in 26 appearances...posted great numbers before All-Star Break with 3.03 figure (11er, 32.2ip) with .242 avg. against (30-for-124), compared to 8.80 ERA (15er, 15.1ip) and .380 avg. against (27-for-71) after ASB...after struggling in April (5.40 ERA in 14 games), was arguably one of best relief options in May and June, combining for 2-1 record and 0.98 ERA (2er, 18.1ip)...however, struggled over season's final 3 months, yielding 8.24 ERA (18er, 19.2ip) over final 27 contests...forged season-high 11.2-scoreless inning streak May 15-June 21... hit rough spell beginning in Aug., getting charged with 4 blown saves in his 1st 8 appearances... allowed 6 earned runs in just 4.1 innings, covering that 8-game span...however, Giants won 6 of those 8 games...earned 3rd victory of year Aug. 10 vs. Los Angeles-NL with scoreless 9th inning... walked all 3 batters faced Sept. 20 at Los Angeles-NL, forcing in pair of inherited runners in 7th inning of tied contest...allowed 9 of his final 13 inherited runners to score...did not appear in club's final 7 contests...following season was eligible for salary arbitration, but Giants tendered him contract for 2009 campaign.
2007
Spent entire season in majors for 1st time, ranking 3rd on staff with career-high 63 outings (44-scoreless efforts)...held opposition to .235 avg. (44-for-187), lowest among qualifying SF relievers...was extremely tough on right-handed batters, yielding just 19 hits (11 singles, 6 2Bs, 2 HRs) in 108 at-bats (.176)...also led Giants bullpen hurlers with 51 strikeouts, compiled over 50.0 innings...excelled at AT&T Park, logging 2.73 ERA (8er, 26.1ip) and .214 avg. against (21-for-98) in 31 home outings...numbers jumped to 8.37 (22er, 23.2ip) and .258 (23-for-89) in 32 road appearances...earned win with 2.0-perfect innings June 7 at Arizona, 1st ML victory since Sept. 20, 2005 (at Washington)...suffered left shoulder strain during 2.0-inning outing Sept. 3 at Colorado, and was sidelined for 12 days...was pitching best ball prior to injury, forging 1.45 ERA (3er, 18.2ip) with .169 avg. against (11-for-65) over 17 outings...made 7 appearances following injury, but was touched for 5 earned runs in 2.0 innings (22.50 ERA).
2006
Had up-and-down season, but finished on strong note...made 1st career Opening Day roster, but was optioned to triple-A Fresno April 20 after getting touched for 9 runs in 2.1 innings (34.71 ERA) over his 1st 6 outings...righted ship with Grizzlies, going 6-7 with team-best 14 saves and 3.65 ERA in club-high 45 appearances...posted 4:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio in Pacific Coast League, fanning 68 against 17 walks...returned to majors for brief stay July 4-6, but made just 1 appearance (2er, 2.0ip)...was recalled for good Aug. 14, and logged 4.20 ERA (7er, 15.0ip) over 17 outings...however, posted 3.38 mark (4er, 10.2ip) in his final 12 appearances, including 8-scoreless efforts.
2005
Rookie morphed from non-roster invitee at Spring Training, to dominant reliever with triple-A Fresno, to one of SF's best bullpen arms...worked in 24 ML games, logging 1.59 ERA (4er, 22.2ip) with paltry .185 avg. against (15-for-81) and 19 strikeouts...dominated against right-handed batters, yielding just 6 hits in 47 at-bats (.128)...had contract purchased by SF June 11 after forging 0.95 ERA (3er, 28.1ip) in 26 outings at Fresno...made ML debut that night, logging scoreless frame vs. Cleveland...was optioned to minors July 17, served as Grizzlies' closer for 2 months, then returned to SF Aug. 26...was dominant following 2nd recall, posting 0.66 ERA (1er, 13.2ip) and .152 avg. against (7-for-46) in 15 outings (14-scoreless efforts)...earned 1st big league win Aug. 30 vs. Colorado, tossing perfect 8th inning before Giants rallied with 2 runs in bottom half for 4-3 victory.
2004
Split season between double-A Norwich and triple-A Fresno, combining for 5- 8 mark with 5.74 ERA (71er, 111.1ip) in 22 games (19 starts)...excelled at Norwich to open campaign, logging 3-1 ledger with 2.48 ERA (16er, 58.0ip) in 14 outings (10 starts)...earned Navigators' co-Player of Month honors for May, sharing title with Doug Clark...was promoted to Fresno and worked in 18 contests (9 starts) during triple-A debut, going 4-7 with 9.28 ERA (55er, 53.1ip)...pitched well for Occidente in Venezuelan Winter League following campaign, going 1-2 with save and 2.55 ERA in 24 games (2 starts).

Returned to action after missing 2002 campaign due to left elbow surgery...appeared in 34 games (12 starts) for Norwich, going 0-6 with 5.71 ERA...posted 3.60 mark (10er, 25.0ip) in 22 relief outings.
