Henry Jay Owens graduated from Braddock Senior High School (FL)...Winner of the Bulldog Award, which is given to the player displaying the best work ethic, and the Challenger Award, which is awarded to the player who best excels in both the classroom and on the field...Attended Barry University, where he was named to the Academic All-Sunshine State Conference team...Was a catcher in both high school and college before being converted to a pitcher...His aunt, Anna Marti, ran track at the University of Southern California...Is the nephew of Juan Bustabad, who was recently named the manager of the Dodgers' Gulf Coast League (R) affiliate.
2006
Did not surrender a run in three of his four appearances with New York Mets...compiled a 3.0 scoreless innings streak spanning two outings from July 7-8... was optioned back to Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League on July 15...made his Major League debut with a scoreless inning on July 7 vs. Florida...worked a perfect ninth inning...struck out Alfredo Amezaga (first batter)...was recalled from Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League on July 6...Named to Team USA's 24-man roster that won the Gold Medal in the 2006 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Havana, Cuba in September which guaranteed the United States a spot in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China...appeared in six games, working 4.2 innings and earning three saves during the tournament...Finished third in the Eastern League with 20 saves...had 74 strikeouts in 40.0 innings (16.65 strikeouts per nine innings), including at least one strikeout in 35 of his 37 outings at Binghamton...also had multiple strikeouts in 25 appearances...was unscored upon in 21 of his first 23 outings and in 31 of his 37 games...allowed one home run over 40.0 innings...struck out all six men he faced on April 9 vs. Akron...the six strikeouts were a season-high...was selected to the Topps' Double-A All-Star team...Went 1-0 with nine saves and 1.59 ERA in 10 games for Licey in the Dominican Winter League.

Ranked second on his St. Lucie club in appearances...Held opponents to a .233 (49-210) batting average...Pitched a season-high 4.0 innings on June 9th vs. Brevard County...Allowed one hit, no runs, walked one, and struck out one...Made his first professional start on May 1st vs. Daytona...Hurled 2.1 innings, permitting three hits, three runs, one earned, with no walks and two strikeouts...Constructed a 10.2-inning scoreless streak from June 6th-June 27th...Was 2-1 with a 2.59 ERA and five saves in 21 games in relief for Caguas in the Puerto Rican Winter League...In 24.1 innings, he allowed 18 hits, seven runs, earned, with 13 walks and 37 strikeouts...Was third in the league in strikeouts and tied for fourth in the league in saves...Was 0-0 with a 8.53 ERA in four games in relief for Grand Canyon of the Arizona Fall League...In 6.1 innings, he allowed 12 hits, eight runs, six earned, with two walks and eight strikeouts.
