Opened season with Washington and appeared in 17 games before being designated for assignment on June 4 and traded to Chicago-NL on June 11...Held opponents to a .203 (14x69) batting average with Washington, but walked 16 in 18.0 innings (8.0 BB per 9.0 IP)...Made just five appearances with the Cubs before being designated for assignment on July 14, and outrighted to Triple-A Iowa on July 19...After three appearances with Iowa, was placed on 7-day disabled list from August 1 until end of Minor League season with a right elbow strain.
2012
Entered '12 as Nationals' closer (Drew Storen had bone chips removed during Spring Training)...successfully converted 9 saves in 12 chances for
Washington in first extensive experience in the closing role...was strong in April (2.00 ERA, 5 saves in 6 opportunities), but struggled thereafter
(7.52 ERA)...struggled with control (career-high 6.8 BB/9.0 IP)...endured 2 DL stints totalling 84 games (index finger, lower back/right elbow)...did
not pitch after July 31...had season-ending surgery performed by Dr. Wiemi Douoguih (right elbow scope debridement) on Aug. 31 in DC.

Went 3-3 with 10 holds, 2 saves and 3.56 ERA in 59 relief appearances ... in 65.2 innings, posted 70 strikeouts and was touched for just one home
run (John Buck, July 26 vs. FLA) ... was one of 20 NL relievers to work at least 65.0 innings and strike out more than one batter per inning ... ranked fourth in NL as 32.1 percent of offerings resulted in a swing and miss (min. 60.0 innings) ... posted 2.02 ERA in 32 games when walking none, compared to 5.40 ERA in 27 appearances when walking one or more batters ... posted .220 batting average against ... struck out at least one batter in 43 of 59 appearances ... logged first win with Nationals on May 20 at BAL, throwing 3.0 scoreless innings in 17-5 victory ... earned first career save (1.0 IP, 1 K) in 7-5 win, Sept. 21 at PHI ... picked up 2nd save 5 days later, Sept. 26 at FLA ... began season on DL (right shoulder) and missed 22 games before

Had two stints with both Single-A Stockton and Double-A Midland and combined for a 4-10
record, two saves and a 5.20 ERA in 34 games, 22 starts...led the A's farm system with a career high 147
strikeouts in 116.0 innings, an average of 11.41 per nine innings...however, issued 84 walks (6.52 per
nine innings), which tied Chris Archer (Lake County) and Bill Murphy (Syracuse) for the most in all of
minor league baseball...also tied for the minor league lead with 25 wild pitches...was rated by Baseball
America as having the Best Fastball among A's prospects and was also tabbed by the magazine as the
number nine prospect in the California League...his first 22 assignments were as a starter and he was
3-9 with a 5.58 ERA in those games...his final 12 appearances came out of the bullpen, where he was
1-1 with a 3.06 ERA...did not allow a home run in 17.2 innings of relief...allowed just six home runs
in 116.0 innings total, or one per 19.3 innings...five of the home runs were solo shots...allowed a .244
opponents batting average, which broke down to .224 against right-handed hitters and .272 against lefthanders...
allowed all six of his home runs to lefties...opponents hit .225 with runners in scoring position
at Stockton but that mark jumped to .315 at Midland...his teams were 5-17 (.227) in his 22 starting assignments...
tossed at least one inning in all 12 of his relief appearances...was 2-3 with a 3.96 ERA in 20
games, 13 starts at Stockton...finished second on the Ports pitching staff with 104 strikeouts...also went

Started the season in extended spring training and was sent to Single-A Kane County May 11...
spent the rest of the season with the Cougars and was 6-8 with a 3.07 ERA in 20 games, 18 starts...allowed
a .214 opponents batting average, which included a .176 mark against left-handed hitters and .245
against right-handers...opponents hit .188 with runners in scoring position, including .167 with RISP
and two outs...however, issued 58 walks for a .329 opponents on-base percentage...struck out 106 batters
in 99.2 innings...allowed just two home runs, or one every 49.8 innings...did not allow a home run
in 57.1 innings at home...his highest single month ERA was 3.33 in July...his first two appearances of
the season were in relief and he was 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA in those two outings...his final 18 outings were
all starts and he went 6-7 with a 2.97 ERA in his starting assignments...allowed two runs or fewer in 12
of his 18 starts...was named the A's eighth best prospect by Baseball America following the season...
tossed his only complete game of the season in his second start May 29 at Beloit in the second game of
a doubleheader but took the loss in a 5-2 loss (6.0 ip, 3 h, 3 r, 3 er, 2 bb, 6 so)...allowed his first home
run of the season in the first inning of that game but then went 15 starts and 87.0 innings before allowing
another home run in the seventh inning of his final start Sept. 1 at Wisconsin...pitched for Zulia in
the Venezuelan Winter League following the season and was 1-4 with a 4.26 ERA in 15 games, seven
starts...walked 29 and struck out 46 in 44.1 innings...allowed just one home run...held the opposition
to a .209 batting average.
2006
Pitched for the A's affiliate in the Arizona Rookie League in his first season in the United States and was 5-2 with a save and a 7.42 ERA in 15 games, four starts...led the team in wins, walks (50) and strikeouts (59)...topped the AZL in walks and ranked fourth in strikeouts...averaged 12.16 strikeouts and 10.31 walks per nine innings...allowed just one home run in 43.2 innings...allowed a .284 opponents batting average, which included a .245 mark against right-handed hitters and .350 against left-handers...was 5-2 with a 4.32 ERA and .218 opponents batting average in eight games at home and 0-0 with an 11.57 ERA and .360 opponents batting average in seven games on the road...was 1-1 with a 5.14 ERA in his four starts and 4-1 with an 8.49 ERA in 11 relief appearances...recorded his lone save of the season on July 16 at the Padres (4.0 ip, 7 h, 2 r, 2 er, 4 bb, 5 so)...picked up his first professional win on July 31 against the Brewers (2.2 ip, 2 h, 2 r, 2 er, 5 bb, 3 so) and won each of his final five decisions...struck out a season high 10 batters in 5.0 innings in a start and win on August 20 against the Brewers...made two appearances for Zulia in the Venezuelan Winter League following the season and posted a 13.50 ERA (0.2 ip, 2 r, 1 er, 4 bb, 1 so).
