Finished fifth in the voting for American League Rookie of the Year in 2005 ... His first Major League hit was a home run on May 31, 2010 vs. WSH for HOU...was the first Astro to hit a homer for his first MLB hit since RHP Butch Henry (off Doug Drabek) on May 8, 1992 at PIT...Chacin was 0x7 in his career as a hitter prior to the homer, with his previous ML at-bat on June 26, 2006...Chacin was the first Astros pitcher to hit a home run since LHP Mike Hampton July 24, 2009 vs. NYM, and the fifth relief pitcher in franchise history to hit a home run in a game and first since RHP Russ Ortiz on May 19, 2009 vs. MIL ... Went 2-2 with one save and a 4.70 ERA (20ER/38.1IP) in a career-high 44 relief outings for Houston over two stints from May 4-23 and May 28-Oct. 3...was his first outing in the Majors since making five starts in 2007 with TOR...his 38.1 innings pitched were his most since tossing 87.1 in 2006 with TOR...his outing on May 7 vs. SD (2.0IP) marked his first career MLB relief appearance...all previous 58 MLB outings had been as a starter...did not allow a run in 11 of his final 12 appearances of the season, posting a 1.29 ERA (1ER/7IP) in that span since Aug. 21...stranded 23 of 31 inherited runners, or 74.2 percent, during 2010...his first Major League hit was a home run on May 31 vs. WSH...posted a 1-1 record and a 3.60 ERA (10ER/25IP) in six games, five starts, for Round Rock.

Started his year at Washington's Spring Training and made four appearances, one start, with the Nats, going 1-2 with a 4.66 ERA (5ER/9.2IP) in his spring appearances...released on March 31 and signed a minor league deal with Philadelphia on April 5...debuted at Double A Reading on May 23...made two appearances, one start, posted a 1-0 record and a 3.12 ERA (3ER/8.2IP) before being promoted to Triple A Lehigh Valley on June 1...finished the season in the Lehigh's rotation, going 8-4 with a 3.21 ERA (38ER/106.2IP) in 18 starts...granted free agency on Nov. 9 and signed with Houston as a minor league player on Dec. 7... following the season, pitched for Caracas in the Venezuelan Winter League and posted a 3-3 record and a 4.25 ERA (17ER/36IP) in eight starts.
2008
Began the season on Toronto's 40-man roster while recovering from Aug. 2007 left-shoulder surgery...optioned to Dunedin (A) to begin the season with the task to regain arm strength...was designated for assignment on May 9, and outrighted on May 14...placed on the minor league DL on June 14 and did not make an appearance the remainder of the season...granted free agency following the season...signed by Washington to a minor league contract with an invitation to Major League Spring Training on Dec. 16.

Made five April starts before being placed on the disabled list with left shoulder soreness May 1... MINORS: Made three starts with Syracuse (AAA) in a rehabilitation assignment, going 0-2 with a 7.45 ERA (8ER/9.2IP)...Had season-ending surgery on his left shoulder on Aug. 29...Was then transferred to the 60-day DL on Sept. 4...Mr. APRIL: Dating back to 2005, has compiled a record of 10-3 with a 4.17 ERA in 15 starts...LOVES THE SOX: Apr. 17 vs. BOS, improved his career record vs. the Red Sox to 6-0 with a 3.83 ERA in eight career starts (6.2IP, 6H, ER, 3K).

Began the season 4-0, to extend the Blue Jays streak to seven consecutive wins in his starts (Sept 22, 2005-Apr 25, 2006)... Team record in his starts was 12-5, despite only six quality starts (35%)... Was 6-1 at Rogers Centre, although his ERA was 6.06... Enjoyed the highest run support on the club (min. six starts) at 6.3 runs per game...Was on the disabled list twice, from May 16-30, and June 10-Aug 23, with a forearm soreness and strain of the left elbow... Experienced the shortest start of his career Aug. 23 vs.OAK... Allowed five earned runs in only 1.1 IP.

Was 13-9 with a 3.72 ERA... Led the team with 121 strikeouts... His 13 wins tied Josh Towers for the team lead... Was the first rookie to lead the team in wins and strikeouts since Mark Eichhorn (14 wins and 166K in 1986)... Made a team-leading 34 starts which tied Jerry Garvin (1977) for the most ever by a Blue Jays rookie pitcher... His 13 wins were the most ever by a Blue Jays rookie starter in one season... Finished 2nd on the team with 203.0 innings pitched... Was only the 2nd Blue Jays rookie ever to throw 200 innings in a season (also Garvin, 244.2 in 1977)... Ranked 3rd in AL rookie strikeouts (121) and 4th in ERA (3.72)...Among Blue Jays rookies ranked T-1st all-time in starts (34), 2nd in wins (13) and innings pitched (203.0), 3rd in strikeouts (121) and 4th in ERA (3.72). July 31 vs. TEX became the first Blue Jays rookie to win five games in a calendar month. Furthermore, Chacin went 5-0 during July. Over the past 10 years, the only other rookie to win at least five games in July without a loss was Baltimore's Rodrigo Lopez, who went 6-0 in July 2002.
