Gregory Thomas Smith...married to Camie Sanford Smith...the 2002 graduate of Alexandria High School was named 2002 Mr. Baseball in the state of Louisiana after his senior year in which he went 9-0, 0.12, including a state record-tying 20-strikeout performance...tied the state record for single-game strikeouts with 20 in one contest...also batted .479 (34-for-71) with 11 doubles, 2 triples, 6 homers and 48 RBI...as a junior, led Alexandria High to the 2001 Class 4A State Championship game; posted an 8-2 mark and a 0.78 ERA in '01 with 96 strikeouts in 58.0 innings, also batting .365 as the team's clean-up hitter...played quarterback for the Alexandria football team...following his junior campaign, he was selected as First-Team All-SEC, First-Team ABCA All South Region and Third Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball.

2010

Started the season on the Rockies big league club in the starting rotation in place of injured Jeff Francis...made 8 starts going 1-2, 6.23 (39.0 ip, 27 er) allowing a .322 average with 8 home runs, 24 walks, 31 strikeouts and 21 extra-base hits...Rockies went 1-7 in his 8 starts...Continued his streak of perfect fielding percentage by making no errors with either Colorado or Colorado Springs...has not made an error since 2007 with Tucson, and only has 4 professional errors...Hit .308 (4-for-13) with the big league club and .182 (2-for-11) with Colorado Springs...recorded his first Major League RBI 4/13 vs. NYM with a double in his first at-bat...Spent the rest of the season with Triple-A Colorado Springs where he made 15 starts for the Sky Sox and went 2-5, 6.12 (75.0 ip, 51 er) with 49 strikeouts compared to 30 walks...Was placed on the disabled list with Colorado Springs two separate times but did not spend a significant amount of time disabled.

2009

Was slowed by shoulder inflammation during the entire season, his first with Colorado...combined for 11 starts at three different levels of the minors (Colorado Springs, Tulsa and Modesto)...went 2-3 with a 6.57 ERA (49.1 ip, 36 er) in those games...all 11 games were starts: May (3), June (2), July (5) and Sept. (1)...was coming off minor surgery following the 2008 season (to remove loose bodies from pitching elbow (Oct. 24, 2008).

2008

The rookie left-hander was acquired from Arizona in the Dan Haren trade prior to the season and went 7-16 with a 4.16 ERA in a team-leading 32 starts for the A's...became the third rookie to lead Oakland in games started along with Matt Keough (32 in 1978) and Chris Codiroli (31 in 1983)...in addition to games started, he also topped the A's in losses, innings pitched (190.1), complete games (2), walks (87), home runs (21), runs (92) and earned runs (88)...his 16 losses are T-7th most in Oakland history and were the most since 1998 when Tom Candiotti also lost 16...they were the most by an A's left-hander since Vida Blue set the record with 19 in 1977...his innings pitched were the fewest by an A's team leader since Don Wengert had 134.0 in 1997...his starts tied for 2nd-most by a rookie in Oakland history, falling one short of the record of 33 set by Joe Blanton in 2005, and his losses were second most to the record 19 set by Rick Langford in 1977...his innings pitched and strikeouts were 5th-best in Oakland history by a rookie and his walks are the most by an A's rookie since Eric Plunk set the Oakland record with 102 in 1986...had the low- est run support among all ML pitchers (2.88) and that was the lowest figure by any pitcher since Terry Mulholland had a mark of 2.84 for the Cubs and Giants in 1997...it was second lowest by an Oakland pitch- er since the stat was tracked beginning in 1974 (Matt Keough, 2.60 in 1978)...had run support of one run or less in 18 of his 32 starts...was 1-13 in those games and 6-3 with run support of two or more...was the starting pitcher in four of the 10 games in which the A's were shutout and had zero run support 10 times...posted a 0.94 ERA in his 7 wins, a 3.24 ERA in his 9 no decisions and a 6.31 ERA in his 16 loss- es...T-2nd among AL pitchers in losses, had the 3rd lowest strikeout to walk ratio (1.28), T-3rd in walks, and had the 5th lowest winning pct. 2007

Split his season between Double-A Mobile and Triple-A Tucson in the Arizona organization and combined for a 9-5 record and a 3.54 ERA in 22 games, all starts...had three complete games, which tied for the second best figure in all of minor league baseball...ranked sixth in the Diamondbacks farm system in ERA...allowed a .271 opponents batting average, which included a .215 (31 for 144) mark against left-handed hitters and .297 (94 for 317) against right-handers...allowed nine of his 11 home runs against righties...opponents hit .167 with runners in scoring position at Mobile and .328 at Tucson...combined for a .429 (12 for 28) batting average with four doubles, a home run, two RBI and two walks as a hitter...his teams were 13-9 in his starting assignments...tossed six or more innings in 14 of his 22 starts, allowed two runs or fewer 14 times and walked two batters or fewer 19 times...began the season in extended spring training and was sent to Mobile on May 6...was 5-3 with a 3.36 ERA in 12 starts for the Bay Bears...tied for the Southern League lead with two complete games...struck out 62 and walked 14 for a strikeout to walk ratio of 4.4...walked just one batter in 10 of his starts and two in the other two...did not allow a home run in five starts and 26.0 innings in May when he was 2-1 with a 3.12 ERA...tossed his first complete game of the season on May 16 against Jacksonville, a 9-2 victory in a six inning game (4 h, 2 r, 2 er, 1 bb, 5 so)...struck out a season high 10 batters in 5.0 innings on June 2 at Jacksonville but also allowed five runs on a season high nine hits...went 3-2 with a 2.20 ERA over a five start stretch from June 7 to 29...had his second six-inning complete game in a 1-0 loss in the first game of a doubleheader on June 19 at Montgomery (5 h, 1 bb, 5 so)...matched his season high for innings pitched on June 24 against West Tenn when he tossed 7.0 shutout innings for the win...allowed just two hits and walked two while striking out seven...was transferred to Tucson on July 12 and went 4-2 with a 3.78 ERA in 10 starts with the Sidewinders...tossed a complete game in his first Triple-A start, but it was another six-inning affair in a 7-2 loss in the first game of a doubleheader at Colorado Springs on July 14...allowed a season high seven runs on a season high tying nine hits in that game and then allowed six runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings in his next start on July 19 at Fresno...was 0-2 with an 11.57 ERA over his first two starts with Tucson...then won each of his final four decisions and posted a 2.09 ERA over that eight start stretch...tossed 6.0 shutout innings and allowed just three hits without walking a batter on July 30 against Albuquerque, but had a no decision in a 4-3 win...tossed a season low 3.0 innings and allowed six runs, two earned, on August 11 against Fresno but had a no decision in a 9-6 win...tossed six shutout innings and struck out a Triple-A high eight for the win on August 21 against Colorado Springs...pitched for Scottsdale in the Arizona Fall League following the season and was 2-2 with a 2.61 ERA in six starts.

2006

Was perfect at Single-A Lancaster, got promoted to Double-A Tennessee and closed out the campaign pitching for Team USA...went 14-4 with a 2.55 ERA and 15 quality starts in 24 games for the JetHawks and Smokies while holding the opposition to a .231 average with 109 strikeouts...limited left-handed hitters to a .228 (21 for 92) average and right-handed hitters to a .231 (101 for 437) mark...was named to the California League Postseason All-Star Team after leading the league with a pair of shutouts...the shutouts tied for second among all Single-A hurlers and tied for fourth among all minor league pitchers...also tied for the league lead with two complete games...led Arizona farmhands with a 2.55 ERA and ranked second with a 14 victories...thwarted 11 of 15 stolen base attempts, the highest percentage (73%) in the Cal League...was perfect in Cal League play, posting a 9-0 ledger with 1.63 ERA and .190 opponents average with 71 strikeouts...after four straight no-decisions (all team losses) to open the season, posted nine straight wins from April 29 to June 10 with a 1.14 ERA, a .169 average against and 52 strikeouts...named Cal League Pitcher of the Week for May 22-28 after tossing a complete game, one-hitter with eight strikeouts in a 4-0 win at Lake Elsinore on May 26...selected as Arizona's minor league Pitcher of the Month for May, boasting a 6-0 ledger with a 1.62 ERA, .188 average against and 34 strikeouts in 6 starts...promoted to Tennessee on June 13...matched his season best with eight strikeouts on August 12 at Chattanooga...placed on the temporarily inactive list on August 16 to pitch for the Team USA squad that qualified for the 2008 Olympics...notched a pair of wins in exhibition games in the International Friendship Series...in the 2006 Americas Olympic Qualifying Event, he went 1-0 with a 4.91 ERA in two starts...allowed two runs in 4.0 innings pitched with five hits, two walks and a strikeout in earning the win in a 5-2 triumph over Puerto Rico on August 29...tossed 3.1 frames and fanned five in an 11-5 win over Panama on September 3.

2005

Selected as the Pioneer League's Pitcher of the Year while playing for Missoula...led the league in wins (8), innings pitched (82.1) and strikeouts (100) while ranking fifth in ERA (4.15)...among league starters, he ranked first with 1.79 walks per nine innings, second with 10.9 strikeouts per nine innings and third with a .233 opponents average...recorded a season best eight strikeouts on July 27 vs. Great Falls, August 13 vs. Casper and August 24 at Idaho Falls...was the league's toughest hurler to run on, with 11-of-18 would-be base stealers (61%) nabbed.
