Fernando Hernandez, Jr....attended Broward (FL) Junior College and was a draft and follow from the 2002 draft after being selected by the White Sox in the 49th round...was scouted and signed by White Sox scouts Joe Butler and George Kachigian on May 26, 2003...graduated from Southwest HS (Miami, FL).
2009
Spent most of the season at Double-A Birmingham where he ranked third in the Southern League with 20 saves while posting a 2-3 record and a 1.71 ERA in 44 relief appearances...was promoted to Triple-A Charlotte Aug. 1 and was 1-1 with a 1.59 ERA in 13 appearances...combined for a 3-4 record, a career high 20 saves and a 1.68 ERA in 57 relief appearances...ranked second in the White Sox farm system in saves...yielded just two home runs in 69.2 innings and struck out 70...allowed a .181 opponents batting average, including .179 (26 for 145) against right-handed hitters and .183 (19 for 104) against left-handers...his opponents average dropped to .101 with runners in scoring position...converted 20 of 24 (83.3%) save opportunities and allowed 2 of 18 (11.1%) inherited runners to score...tossed at least one inning in 55 of his 57 games...including a season high 2.0 nine times.

Made the A's Opening Day roster as a Rule 5 selection but appeared in just three games before he was returned to the Chicago White Sox organization...made his Major League debut April 9 at Toronto and picked up the win, tossing a scoreless eighth inning with the A's trailing 3-2...Oakland then scored four times in the ninth for the win...allowed two runs without retiring a batter in his next outing on April 11 at Cleveland and then allowed four runs on four hits and two walks in 2.0 innings two days later against the Indians...had a 18.00 ERA and .308 opponents batting average in three outings when he was designated for assignment April 14...was returned to the White Sox organization April 16 and spent the remainder of the season at Double-A Birmingham...went 6-5 with a 4.66 ERA in 41 relief appearances with the Barons...allowed just two home runs in 58.0 innings...opponents hit .274, which broke down to .238 against right-handed hitters and .320 against left-handers...was charged with three blown saves and allowed 10 of 23 (43.5%) inherited runners to score...was 4-2 with a 3.06 ERA in 24 appearances at home and 2-3 with a 6.66 ERA in 17 outings on the road...allowed just one run over his first seven outings with Birmingham (8.2 ip, 1.04 ERA)...then allowed a season high five runs on four hits in 0.2 innings May 7 at Montgomery and was placed on the disabled list the next day with a strained right shoulder...was reinstated from the DL May 17...compiled a 2.81 ERA over a 26-game stretch from May 23 to Aug. 9...then allowed nine runs over his final five outings (9.53 ERA)...tossed two or more innings in 14 of his 41 outings...had a season high four strikeouts June 26 at Mississippi.

Made his Double-A debut with Birmingham and spent the entire season with the Barons...was 1-3 with nine saves and a 3.06 ERA in a career high 60 appearances, all in relief...also had career highs in innings pitched (85.1) and strikeouts (84)...led the Southern League and tied for sixth among all minor leaguers in games pitched...ranked third among SL relievers in fewest base runners per nine innings (10.34) and fifth in fewest walks per nine innings (2.43)...held the opposition to a .230 batting average, which included a .226 mark against left-handed hitters and .233 against right-handers...opponents hit .186 with runners in scoring position, including .150 with RISP and two outs...converted 9 of 15 (60.0%) save opportunities and allowed 7 of 20 (35.0%) inherited runners to score...compiled his best ERA in May when he had a mark of 0.90 in 13 appearances...held the opposition to a .145 batting average and walked four while striking out 20 in 20.0 innings...had lowered his season ERA to 2.63 before allowing a season high four runs in 1.0 innings on June 8 against Mississippi...allowed his fourth home run of the season in that game, but did not allow another home run over his final 35 games and 46.2 innings...posted a 2.16 ERA in 13 outings in August...did not allow a run in 12 of his final 13 outings and finished the season with an eight-game, 7.2-inning scoreless streak...pitched for the Arizona Fall League Champion Phoenix Desert Dogs following the season and was 0-0 with two saves and a 0.00 ERA in 12 appearances...yielded just two unearned runs in 12.2 innings and opponents hit .114.
2006
Spent the entire season at Single-A Winston Salem for the second consecutive season and was 7-5 with 13 saves and a 1.93 ERA in 57 relief appearances...the wins were a career high and the saves ranked third best in the White Sox farm system...finished second in the Carolina League in appearances, fourth in games finished (34) and fifth in saves...struck out 81 batters in 65.1 innings and his average of 11.16 strikeouts per nine innings was fourth best among CL relievers...allowed a .207 opponents batting average including .180 against right-handed hitters and .243 against left-handers...opponents batted .167 with runners in scoring position...did not allow an earned run in nine outings in April (12.2 ip) or 11 appearances in August (10.2 ip)...began the season with a 10-game, 13.2-inning scoreless streak... had a 1.29 ERA over his first 29 outings through June 15...then allowed 12 runs over his next 15 outings from June 18 to July 29 (4.41 ERA)...compiled a 0.64 ERA over his final 14 outings.
2005
Spent the entire season at Single-A Winston-Salem and was 4-1 with a save and a 5.14 ERA in 45 relief appearances...allowed a .303 opponents batting average, including .286 by left-handed hitters and .315 by right-handers...compiled a 2.87 ERA in 19 appearances on the road and a 6.98 ERA in 26 outings at home...his ERA increased each month of the season as he had a 3.45 ERA in April, 3.68 in May, 4.76 in June, 6.39 in July and 9.75 in August...struck out a season high five batters in a season high 4.0 innings and picked up the win June 14 against Frederick...made one postseason appearance for the Warthogs (2.1 ip, 1 h, 1 r, 1 er, 1 bb, 1 so).
2004
Began the season in extended spring training and was sent to Single-A Kannapolis of the South Atlantic League June 5...was 3-3 with a 2.98 ERA and four saves in 28 relief appearances for the Intimidators... was transferred to Single-A Winston-Salem of the Carolina League Sept. 7 and did not allow a run in two relief appearances (2.0 ip)...compiled a 2.85 ERA in 30 relief appearances overall...struck out 60 in 47.1 innings (11.41 per nine innings)...allowed a .237 opponents batting average...also made one postseason appearance for Winston-Salem (2.1 ip, 1 h, 1 r, 1 er, 2 bb, 2 so).
2003
Made his professional debut with Great Falls of the Pioneer Rookie League and was 1-3 with seven saves and a 2.70 ERA in 24 appearances...led his team in appearances and saves...ranked fourth in the PL in games finished (23)...allowed a .261 opponents batting average...recorded his first professional save June 23 at Ogden (1.0 ip, 1 h)...his first win came Aug. 31 against Billings (1.0 ip, 1 h).
