Elmer's first year as a Diamondback, he led the staff in starts (30), while going 8-8...he allowed 212 hits (seventh in the N.L.), and 107 runs (tenth in the N.L.) of which 99 were earned (tied for ninth)...he notched his first win as a Diamondback on April 13, a 9-3 decision over Milwaukee, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits over 6.2 innings...he won back-to-back starts for the only time on the season in Montreal (April 23) and over Florida (April 28), yielding 2 runs (1 earned) in 6.0 innings at Olympic Stadium then limiting the Marlins to a run over 7.0 frames in Bank One Ballpark...after picking up 3 wins in April, Dessens won only once in each of the remaining months, waiting nearly a month between each victory...following his April 28 triumph, his other victories came on May 25 vs. San Diego, June 25 vs. Houston, July 26 vs. Los Angeles, August 21 vs. Cincinnati and September 20 in Milwaukee...he allowed 3 earned runs or less in 5 of his 6 starts during June, going 1-0 with a 4.32 ERA for the month after allowing 17 home runs over his first 18 starts of the year, Elmer gave up only 5 long balls over his last 16 trips to the mound (12 starts)...he began July with losses in 3 consecutive starts from July 5-21, starting with a tough 2-0 loss in Los Angeles, allowing 2 unearned runs in 7.0 innings while fanning a season- high 8...he snapped the slide with an impressive 1-0 victory over the Dodgers in Phoenix on July 26, surrendering 4 singles in 7.0 innings...he also drove home the game's lone run with his first career triple during the fifth inning, the first pitcher to knock in the game-winning run in a 1-0 victory since Odalis Perez homered against the D'Backs on August 28, 2002 Elmer made his first relief appearance since 2000 when he tossed 2.0 scoreless innings at Florida on July 29...following another relief outing, he returned to the rotation with a no decision at home on August 9, holding the Mets to a run over 6.1 innings, a contest the D'Backs won on a Steve Finley walk-off homer...Elmer's final triumph of the year came on September 20 at Miller Park as Arizona prevailed 10-4, allowing 2 runs in 5.0 innings...he batted .196 (9-for-46) and led the staff with 6 RBI...he also topped the club in sacrifice bunts with 10...he was sent to pinch hit in the ninth inning against the Phillies on May 6 and sacrificed the eventual game-winning run to third base setting the stage for Danny Bautista's sacrifice fly... Made 30 starts for the Reds, finishing the season with the sixth-best overall ERA in the National League (3.03), despite owning a 7-8 record

Ranked second in the league with a 2.56 road ERA and fourth with a 1.83 ERA in day games...went 7-5 with a 2.67 ERA in 23 starts before suffering a right groin strain that landed him on the disabled list from Aug. 6-26

Lost his first three starts of the year despite allowing only five earned runs over 16.2 innings for a 2.70 ERA...went 7-2 with a 2.66 ERA over his next 20 starts prior to his injury, including scoreless stretches of 15.1 innings (April 14-26) and 17.0 innings (July 11-21)...the latter stretch was the longest by a Reds pitcher all season and concluded with his final victory of the year, a 9-1 triumph over the Mets in which he tossed 7.0 shutout innings.

Left Aug. 1 start vs. Los Angeles in the fourth inning with a strained right groin and five days later landed on the disabled list

In a 4-1 loss to the Pirates on Sept. 11, carried a 1-0 lead into the seventh, retiring the first 19 batters of the game before Jack Wilson reached on a one-out throwing error...retired the next batter but then allowed four unearned runs on a pair of two-run homers

In his second season with the Reds, established career highs in almost every category, including starts (34), innings pitched (205.0) and strikeouts (128).

Entered the season with 24 career starts...was one of the staff's most dependable pitchers...led the club in starts, victories (10), shutouts (1), innings pitched, strikeouts and quality starts (19).

Is the first Reds pitcher with 200IP in a season since 1998 (Brett Tomko 210.2IP, Pete Harnisch 209IP).

Fell one victory shy of his career high (11W, 2000) but was victimized by four blown saves, most on the staff.

Also led the club and ranked eighth in the National League with a career-high 32 homers allowed, three shy of the club record for a righthander (Sammy Ellis, 35HR, 1966)...RHP Rob Bell led the 2000 with 32HR allowed...no Reds pitcher has allowed more than 32HR in a season since LHP Tom Browning gave up a club-record 36HR in 1988 and no righthander has allowed more than 32HR since Bill Gullickson in 1987 (33HR)...nine times allowed two homers in a game...of 13 consecutive runs allowed during a six-start stretch from 5/26-6/22, all 13 runs scored on home runs (8HR)...twice allowed at least one homer in six straight appearancess (5/26-6/22, 8/18-9/18).

His 5-0 victory on 7/28 vs Florida was his second career complete game, his first career shutout and the only shutout by a Reds pitcher all season...that 5-1 win snapped his career-high four-game losing streak...three of the Marlins' six hits did not leave the infield and allowed only one baserunner to reach second, when Luis Castillo and Alex Gonzalez had back-to-back infield hits with two outs in the eighth inning.

In his last two starts of the season, a 7-4 victory on 9/29 vs Montreal and a no-decision in the 2-1 loss vs Philadelphia on 10/6, allowed just two earned runs in 13IP (1.38ERA).

As a hitter led the club with ten sacrifice bunts...recorded his first career two-hit games, including a pair off St. Louis's Bud Smith (8/13 at St. Louis, 8/23 at Cincinnati) and another off Pittsburgh's Jimmy Anderson (9/8 at Pittsburgh)...on 6/5 at Milwaukee struck out in the first pinch-hitting appearance by a Reds pitcher since Denny Neagle struck out on 4/19/00 at Pittsburgh...finished the season with nine hits in his last 18AB.

In his 12-2 win vs St. Louis on 8/23, allowed a HR by Albert Pujols, who became just the 22nd player in Major League history to hit 30HR in his first season...on 6/22 at Houston, allowed a leadoff HR to Craig Biggio.

At Class AA Carolina led the Southern League in wins and ERA...was a Southern League All-Star and Baseball America Class AA All-Star...became the first Mudcats pitcher in history to lead the league in both categories during the same season...ranked T4th in the CL in starts and averaged just 1.06 walks per 9 IP, best mark in the league...did not walk a batter in 15-29 starts and only once issued more than 2 walks in any start.
