Veteran infielder comes to Spring Training as non-roster invitee to open 1st year in Giants organization...spent part of 1996 season and entire 1999 campaign at big league level with Philadelphia, batting .233 with 4 HRs and 18 RBI in 138 games...is veteran of 1,065 minor league contests over 9 seasons, compiling .280 avg. with 108 HRs and 600 RBI...also spent 2001 season in Japan...originally selected by Philadelphia in 27th round of 1993 First Year Player Draft, was with Pittsburgh's triple-A affiliate in 2003. Graduated from New Haven (IN) HS, where he lettered in baseball, basketball and football...played baseball at Indiana State University...married (Kimberly, Dec. 17, 1994)...son (Owen, July 26, 1997).

Logged lone season in Pirates organization, playing in 122 games for triple-A Nashville...batted .276 with 32 2Bs, 5 3Bs, 12 HRs and 57 RBI for Pacific Coast League East Division champs...helped Sounds to PCL Championship Series with solid post season performance, batting .300 (9-for-30) with 3 2Bs, HR and 4 RBI in 7 playoff games.

Made jump to double-A level for 1st time, playing in 139 games with Reading...co-winner of Paul Owens Award for best player in Phillies minor league system, led Eastern League in at-bats (551), total bases (254) and extra-base hits (63)...established career highs with 21 HRs, 79 RBI and franchise-record 39 2Bs...in fact, led all of double-A baseball in extra bases, while total bases were 2nd and 2Bs were tied for 2nd...earned Phillies Minor League Player of Month honors for April...led Reading to EL championship, batting .361 with 6 HRs, 14 RBI and .994 slugging pct. in 8 post season games...played for Tempe Rafters in Arizona Fall League, finishing 10th in circuit with .302 average.
