David Andrew McCarty...graduated from Sharpstown (Texas) High School where he was a three-time, first-team all-district and All-Houston baseball player...was a two-time district Player of the Year and all-state player and 1988 Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in Houston...earned an undergraduate degree in economics from Stanford University...was Baseball America's College Player of the Year in 1991 and earned both first-team All-America and Pac-10 Southern Division Player of the Year honors for his efforts at Stanford....hit .336 in his sophomore year for the Cardinal, helping the club to a third place finish in the College World Series...hit a team-high .455 for Team USA in 1990...played on the 1988 USA Junior Team that competed in Japan...is married, Monica...has two children, Reid and Maxine.

2003

Started the season 6 for 48 (.188) over his first 22 games...raised his average to .242 by going 14 for 47 (.298) from May 15 to June 14...had a 3 for 39 drought from June 15 through August 3 which saw his average dip to .194 after 63 games...finished the year going 24 for 66 (.364) in his final 35 games...hit .080 (2 for 25) with one RBI as a pinch hitter after finishing as the Royals most effective pinch hitter in 2000 (9 for 23, .391)...hit .207 with five doubles and five homers in 53 games before the All-Star Break compared to .310 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 45 games following the break...hit a game-tying solo homer off Seattle's Kazuhiro Sasaki on May 27 before the Mariners rallied for a 5-4 win in 11 innings...recorded a season high three hits and three RBI on August 20 against Chicago, going 3 for 4 with a home run in the Royals 10-1 win...hit five of his seven home runs at Kauffman Stadium...played eight games in the outfield, including seven in left field.

2000

Was the only non-roster invitee to make the Royals opening day roster...played 103 games for the Royals...started 48 games at first base...also made six starts in the outfield (three in left field, three in right field), and five more as the Royals designated hitter...batted .278 while posting career highs in home runs (12), RBI (53) and games played (103)...also tied a career best with 75 hits...batted .391 (9 for 23) with one home run and nine RBI as a pinch hitter, the highest average in the American League among pinch hitters with more than 20 at bats...his one pinch homer came on May 27 off Anaheim's Troy Percival, a game tying two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth inning of a 6-5, 10 inning Royals win...batted .365 against left handers and .223 against righties...tripled on May 24 against Texas, his first three-base hit since May 19, 1995...matched his career high with four hits and knocked in three runs at Boston on June 1...it was his first three RBI game since July 21, 1996...hit his first career grand slam on July 19 in a 10-5 victory over Cleveland...also had a career high four RBI in that game...hit .342 (26 for 76) with runners in scoring position.

1999

Spent the entire season at Triple-A Toledo in the Detroit organization and hit a minor league best 31 home runs...led the Mud Hens and ranked second in the International League in home runs...also had a minor league best and team leading 70 walks and tied his minor league best with a team leading 85 runs scored...also topped the club in hits (125) and total bases (248)...batted .328 (38 for 116) against left handed pitching and .249 (87 for 350) against right handed pitchers...started slowly as he was hitting just .194 (13 for 67) after 20 games...then hit safely in 10 of his next 11 games (16 for 44, .364) to boost his average to the .261 mark...homered in consecutive games on May 24 against Richmond and May 25 at New Orleans...had a pair of two homer games at Syracuse on June 11 and 13...hit seven home runs in July and then batted .301 with seven home runs in August...appeared in 115 games at first base and committed just one error in 1073 chances for a .999 fielding percentage...also appeared in 20 games in the outfield.

1998

Spent one month of the season with the Mariners and the remainder at Triple-A Tacoma...hit safely in 24 of 32 games with Tacoma through May 11, batting .322 (39 for 121)...went 4 for 6 with four RBI on May 11 at Calgary in his last game before a recall by the parent Mariners on May 13...started at Tiger Stadium that night, going 0 for 3...belted his only major league homer of the year on May 23 vs. Tampa Bay...went 3 for 5 on June 9 against his former team at San Francisco but was sent back to Triple-A on June 11...remained at Tacoma for the balance of the campaign...hit .341 (74 for 217) in Triple-A action from July 5 through the close of the season...led his Tacoma club with a .411 on-base percentage...saw action at all three outfield positions in addition to first base...hit .330 (38 for 115) vs. lefthanded pitching at Triple-A and .313 (88 for 281) vs. righthanders...enjoyed his best success away from Tacoma, hitting .354 (74 for 209) on the road.

1997

Was second in the Pacific Coast League in batting (.353), third in slugging (.590) and fourth in on-base percentage (.419) at Phoenix...did not hit below .320 in any month of the season...clubbed seven homers and posted 24 RBI in May action...had a two-homer game on June 30 at Tucson...hit .426 in August.

1996

Spent nearly the entire season with San Francisco...led Giants' pinch-hitters with nine RBI...collected his first homer of the season on April 22 vs. Houston, his first roundtripper since May 15, 1994 (207 at-bats)...hit .318 in July action...was on the disabled list from June 6 to 27 with a sprained right ankle, suffered when he tripped over a shoe in his hotel room.

1995

Began the season with the Twins but was traded twice during the season...was acquired by Cincinnati in a June 8 trade then dealt to San Francisco on July 21...hit a combined .227 (17 for 75) in major league work with the Twins and Giants...made his National League debut on September 1 vs. the Mets...hit a combined .344 in two Triple-A stops at Indianapolis and Phoenix.

1994

Was on the Twins' Opening Day roster...played 32 games at first base and 14 in the outfield before being optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake City on June 30...hit a career-best .260 in 44 total games with the Twins...then hit .253 in in 55 games at Salt Lake.

1993
