**Coaching Career** Eiland will serve his second season as the Royals pitching coach in 2013...he was named to Ned Yost's staff on October 25, 2011...Under Eiland's direction, the 2012 Royals bullpen posted 535 strikeouts, setting an American League record for strikeouts by a bullpen, surpassing the previous record of 527 by the 2001 Cleveland Indians...the entire pitching staff whiffed 1,177 batters, surpassing the 2009 staff (1,153) for most in the franchise's 44 seasons...The 2012 Royals overall ERA of 4.30 was the best season ERA since the 1994 club posted a 4.23 ERA and the pen ERA of 3.17 was the best since the 1989 version compiled a 3.06 mark and the eighth-best in franchise history...He spent the 2011 season in the Tampa Bay Rays organization as a special assistant to Executive VP of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman...Served as the New York Yankees Major League pitching coach for three seasons from 2008-2010, including the 2009 World Series champion club...Led the pitching staff to improvements in club ERA over each of his three seasons on the bench in New York... saw a drop from 4.49 in 2007 to 4.28 in his firstseason of 2008, then to 4.26 in the championship season and finally to 4.06 in his finalseason in 2010...His 2009 pitching staff recorded 1,260 strikeouts, the second-most ever by a Yankees staff...fell just six strikeouts shy of the club mark of 1,266 accomplished in 2001...Eiland's final two staffs in 2009 and 2010 held opponents to a .251 and .249 batting average,respectively...those totals were the second and third best totals for a Yankees club since 1982...Began his coaching career in 2003 as the pitching coach with Single-A Staten Island of the New York-Penn League...was with the Baby Bombers from 2003-04, before serving as pitching coach at Class AA Trenton in 2005-06, then with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (AAA) in 2007...joined the Yankees Major League staff in September 2007 upon completion of the minor league season.. **Playing Career** Appeared in 92 career Major League games, including 70 starts, over 10 seasons with the Yankees (1988-1991, 1995), Padres (1992-1993) and Devil Rays (1998-2000)...Compiled a 12-27 record with a 5.74 ERA (373.0 IP, 238 ER)...underwent a pair of "Tommy John" surgeries, resulting in his retirement in 2002...Originally a seventh-round pick of the Yankees in 1987...was the Yankees' Minor League Pitcher of the Year and International League Pitcher of the Year in 1990. **Miscellaneous Notes** Dave and his wife, Sandra, reside in Wesley Chapel, Fla....they have two daughters: Nicole (19) and Natalie (16)...Played baseball and football at the University of Florida in 1985 before transferring to the University of South Florida in 1986...earned All-Sun Belt honors and was a preseason All-American...Graduated from Zephyrhills (Fla.)
