Darin Cortland Ruf graduated from Westside High School (NE) where he played baseball, football and basketball...Was captain of both teams....Married his high school sweetheart, Libby and they have two kids together, a son, Henry and a daughter, Olive. ...Went to Creighton University while Libby went to the University of Kansas and became a state tennis champion....While at Creighton University, he finished his four-year career with 2,251 putouts, third-most in NCAA history and 38 shy of the all-time mark...He graduated as the school's all-time leader in sacrifice flies (22) and putouts while ranking second in RBI (201)....Named the Joe Carter Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2007...That year he also earned the Rawlings Gold Glove award as the nation's best fielding first baseman. Played in the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) from 2017-2019 with the Samsung Lions....After finding it difficult to explain the homelessness in San Francisco to his son Henry, Darin and his wife, Libby, decided to start a new family activity where they make bag lunches consisting of PB&J, granola bars, crackers, bottled water and a lollipop...Henry helped decorate the bags and would give them out to those in need.

Made his second career pitching appearance on Aug. 15 at Atlanta, going 2.0 shutout innings, the longest ever scoreless appearance by a Mets position player... Lined a two-run, pinch-hit double in his first at-bat with the Mets on Aug. 5 vs. Atlanta... Was acquired at the trade deadline by the Mets...Had three extra-base hits and seven RBI in 29 games in New York... Spent his third season playing in Korea for the Samsung Lions...slugged 22 home runs, drove in 101 runs and batted .292 while appearing in 133 games... His 22 home runs were tied for sixth-most in the KBO while his 101 RBI were fifth-most in the league... Drew 80 walks, his highest total in any of his three seasons while playing in Korea...had a nearly 1:1 strikeoutto-walk ratio (80 walks, 87 strikeouts).
