Married to Jeanne...has two children, Josephine and Jesse...is a 1987 graduate of West Salem (WI) High School, where he letted in baseball, basketball and football...attended Viterbo College in La Crosse, WI, majoring in business...earned NAIA District 14 Player of the Year honors in 1990 after Viterbo came within one game of reaching the NAIA World Series...is the eighth player born in Wisconsin to play for the Brewers...in December 2001, he appeared in an ESPN SportsCenter commercial with Arizona teammate Curt Schilling... participated in the 2004 Milwaukee Brewers Winter Tour presented by Miller Lite...he and his wife Jeanne participated in a Public Service Announcement in 2005 speaking out against domestic violence.

Damian appeared in 114 games in his first year with the Cubs and batted .233 with 9 homers and 36 RBI...saw action in 114 games behind the plate (103 starts) ...Cubs pitchers had a 3.88 ERA when he was catching (401 ER/929.2 IP)...had a .997 fielding percentage (3 E/1016 TC)...threw out 26 of the 68 baserunners who have attempted to steal off him...prior to the Cubs' May 12 contest in Milwaukee, the Wisconsin native was inducted into Miller Park's Wall of Honor ...in the game - an 11-5 Cubs win - he went 2-for-4 with a 3-run homer off Brooks Kieschnick...went 3-for-3 with a 2-run homer (off Javier Vazquez) - and caught a Mark Prior shutout - in the Cubs' 3-0 win over Montreal April 9...hit his second homer - and caught another shutout - April 12 vs. Pittsburgh ...the solo blast off Kris Benson came during a game in which Kerry Wood fanned 13 Pirates in 8.0 innings of work...had a game-winning 3-run triple April 22 vs. San Diego - his first 3-base hit since the 1998 campaign (September 5 vs. Houston)...had the game-winning hit May 7 vs. Milwaukee - a 4th-inning RBI single off Glendon Rusch in the Cubs' 2-1 victory...made his fourth big league Opening Day start - and his Cubs debut - March 31 in New York.

Damian was a National League All-Star during a season in which he batted .249 with 22 doubles, 11 homers and 42 RBI in 101 games for Arizona -- the N.L. West Division champions... had a .997 fielding percentage behind the plate, committing 2 errors in 767 total chances ... his fielding mark topped N.L. catchers (with a minimum of 100 appearances behind the plate)... did not commit his first error of the season until August 31 (vs. San Francisco), snapping his personal errorless-games streak at 99 (dating back to September 1, 2001).
Arizona pitchers had a 4.12 ERA while he was catching (349 ER/763.0 IP)... threw out nearly 36.0-percent of the baserunners who attempted to steal off him (23-64)... started the season strong ... after going 0-for-3 Opening Day, he batted .304 in his next 20 contests (21-69) with 22 RBI -- including a trio of 4-RBI games... had his fourth career grand slam April 2 (off San Diego's Brian Tollberg) and his third career 2-homer game April 11 (at Colorado) ... also drove in 4 runs as part of a 3-hit contest April 25 at Atlanta... was a participant in back-to-back-to-back homer stretches twice in six days...was the middle man between Steve Finley and Mark Grace April 28 off Florida's Josh Beckett ... followed Danny Bautista and Finley in again accomplishing the feat May 3 off Montreal's Bruce Chen... returned to his home state of Wisconsin for the July 9 All-Star Game at Milwaukee's Miller Park -- and went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles (off the White Sox's Mark Buehrle and Seattle's Kazuhiro Sasaki), 1 RBI and 1 run scored ... the 2 doubles tied a Midsummer Classic record... was limited during the second half by a lower back strain, which sent him to the disabled list for the first time during his professional career July 24-August 14... after appearing in 71 of his team's 87 first-half games (including 66 starts), he started just 24 times after the All-Star break... on August 18 at Wrigley Field, he circled the bases for his first career inside-the-park home run (off Matt Clement)... went to the postseason for the second straight year, going 1-for-2 in the Division Series against St. Louis.

Damian won a World Series-championship ring with the Diamondbacks -- recording 11 hits in the postseason after batting .271 in 123 regular-season contests with 13 homers and 47 RBI... in the seventh and final game of the World Series, his 9th-inning bunt off the New York Yankees' Mariano Rivera helped ignite the Diamondbacks' 2-run title-winning rally, as Rivera threw wildly to second base... during the regular season, Arizona pitchers had a 3.53 ERA while he was catching (384 ER/978.0 IP)... in his 121 games behind the plate (111 starts), he threw out nearly one-third of the baserunners who attempted to steal off him (33-101)... was limited late in the regular season due to a strained right shoulder ... his caught-stealing rate hovered over the 41.0-percent mark as late as August 28 (30-73)... after starting the year slowly, he had one of his best career offensive stretches May 30-August 11 -- batting .335 over the 48-game span (52-155) with 12 doubles, 8 homers and 25 RBI... over a 6-game stretch July 21-July 27, he went 13-for-22 -- including his second career 4-hit game July 26 vs. San Francisco... had another solid stretch September 9-September 23, batting .375 (9-24) with 2 homers and a 4-RBI contest (September 9 vs. San Diego)... in the September 22 contest at Los Angeles, he recorded his 100th hit of the season ... the Diamondbacks became just the seventh team in N.L. history to have nine 100-hit players in one campaign.

Handled the majority of the catching for Arizona before his campaign was cut short by a late-season injury... appeared in 97 games behind the plate, including 91 starts ... batted .275 with 10 homers and 44 RBI... made his first career Opening Day start April 4 vs. Philadelphia, going 2-for-3 with a 3-run homer off Andy Ashby in his first at-bat of the season... drove in a career-high 5 runs in an 11-7 victory over Los Angeles May 9, hitting 2 homers in the contest -- including a grand slam off Orel Hershiser... was the middle man in Arizona's first triple play May 31 vs. St. Louis... tagged out the Cardinals' Placido Polanco, who was trying to score from third base on a Mark McGwire fly out to centerfielder Steve Finley... after the play at the plate, he relayed the ball to shortstop Tony Womack, who tagged out Edgar Renteria -- who was attempting to advance to third base... recorded the first 4-hit game of his major league career August 16 at Philadelphia... for the second straight year on September 21, he suffered a season-ending injury -- this time with a sprained right foot.
1999
Shared the Diamondbacks catching duties with Kelly Stinnett, appearing in 86 games behind the plate (78 starts) and fielding at a .991 clip (6 E/689 TC) ... at the plate, he batted .270 with 11 homers and 47 RBI... participated in 3 "strike-'em-out/throw-'em-out" double plays May 25 against San Diego ... in the Diamondbacks' 4-0 victory, Padres baserunners Quilvio Veras, Damian Jackson and Reggie Sanders all attempted to swipe second base with Randy Johnson on the mound... it was the first time since the New York Giants' Shanty Hogan in 1931 that a catcher participated in three double plays of that variety in one game... hit his second career grand slam August 26 off Florida left-hander Brent Billingsley... was injured late in the year and was not on Arizona's playoff roster... on September 21, he suffered a hairline fracture near his right thumb blocking a pitch in the dirt ... the injury came in a contest in which he recorded his first 2-homer game -- going deep twice off Colorado's Brian Bohanon.
1998
Spent most of the year with Arizona in that franchise's first season ... in 57 games (43 starts behind the plate), he hit .286 with 3 homers and 14 RBI...opened the campaign at Tucson (AAA), but was recalled May 6 after batting .349 in 18 games... went 2-for-3 in his first Diamondbacks start May 24 vs. Los Angeles... had a successful return to his home state of Wisconsin during his first career contests at County Stadium, going 4-for-7 in a pair of games against Milwaukee July 31 and August 2 ... went 3-for-3 in the final contest with a homer off Brad Woodall.
1997
Reached the majors in his eighth and final season in Minnesota's organization after spending most of the year at Salt Lake (AAA) ... in his first 25 M.L. games, he batted .273 with 2 homers and 13 RBI... was recalled by the Twins August 10 ... made his debut as a pinch hitter that afternoon against the Yankees... recorded his first M.L. hit in his first start August 13 at Toronto -- a single off Woody Williams... hit his first homer August 19, a 2-run shot off Detroit's Willie Blair... went 10-for-25 during a 7-game hitting streak September 12-September 22, capped by a game-winning grand slam off Milwaukee's Jeff D'Amico in the September 22 affair.

Led Pacific Coast League catchers in total chances (695) and assists (70) at Salt Lake (AAA) ... threw out 42.2-percent of the baserunners who attempted to steal off him (41-97)... at the plate, he hit .286 with 27 doubles, 7 homers and 55 RBI.

Hit .285 in 83 games at Salt Lake (AAA) in his first season at the Triple-A level ... ended the year by batting .349 in his final 23 games... led Pacific Coast League catchers with a .998 fielding percentage, committing just 1 error in 447 total chances.
