Cory James Abbott...was originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the second round of the 2017 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Loyola Marymount University.

2023

Appeared in a career-high 22 games out of the Nationals bullpen in four stints with the Big League club...earned first Major League win on Aug. 11 at Oakland...named INT Pitcher of the Week twice (April 30 & Sept. 17).

2022

Was selected off waivers from the San Francisco Giants on May 4 and reported to Triple-A Rochester...Was recalled for the first time on June 17 and went on to enjoy five stints with Washington...Made nine starts (0-5, 6.00 ERA, 36 SO) and seven relief appearances (2.00 ERA, 9 SO)…Opponents hit .186 against him at home compared to .305 on the road...Did not record a strikeout in his start on Sept. 19 at Atlanta (4.0 IP), but went on to strike out 13 across his next two starts, Sept. 26 vs. Atlanta (7 SO in 5.0 IP) and Oct 4 at New York (NL) (6 SO in 4.0 IP).

2021

In 2021, Cory made his major league debut with seven appearances, including one start, for the Cubs... Had five stints on the major league roster: June 5-8, June 16-20, July 7-8, July 27-29 and Oct. 1 through season's end... Made his major league debut, June 5 at San Francisco ... tossed 2.0 scoreless innings of relief... Threw a career-high 3.0 innings of relief twice: June 19 vs. Miami and July 8 vs. Philadelphia... Made his first major league start, Oct.1 in St. Louis ... tossed 5.0 scoreless innings before he was tagged for 2.0 runs after departing in the sixth... Recorded his first career major league hit, an infield single off Dakota Hudson... In 19 starts for Triple-A Iowa, was 5-6 with a 5.91 ERA (63 ER/96.0 IP) ... struck out 130 batters, good for an average of 12.2 strikeouts per 9.0 innings.

Cory spent the season at the Cubs South Bend alternate site. 

2019

Named Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Year, leading the Southern League in strikeouts and innings pitched...named Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Month in August...ranked as the organization’s eighth-best prospect by Baseball America entering the season.

2018

Named the Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Month in May with South Bend and in August with Myrtle Beach.
