Is a 1992 graduate of Horizon (AZ) High School... attended Arizona State University...father Dave played eight seasons in the Major Leagues with Minnesota, Toronto and Oakland from 1975-82 and is the Cardinals First Base Coach...he and his wife, Tiernan, and daughter, Eden (3/25/04), make their offseason home in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Rookie made first appearance on an Opening Day roster. Appeared in 35 games during two stints with the Cardinals...Had his most success against the Astros, batting .435 vs. HOU (11-23) with five RBI...Made his first appearance for the Cardinals 4/8 vs. MIL as a pinch-hitter, then pitched the 8th & 9th innings of an 11-5 loss. Pitched 2.0 scoreless innings, walking one. Made first start at catcher on 4/13 vs. HOU. Made 2nd start and collected a single 4/20 at HOU to snap 0-9 skid to begin the season...Had a career-high four hits 5/30 at HOU, all singles, and was 2-2 RISP. Went 2-4 on 6/6 vs. HOU with two RBI...Had 2-3 game 6/11 at TEX with a walk and two runs...Had a PH-RBI single 6/15 vs. OAK and singled twice 6/17 vs. the A's...Was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on 6/23 (Taguchi recalled). Hit .467 (7-15) in his six games prior to being sent out...Was on the Memphis disabled list with a dislocated finger from 6/28-7/18...Batted .278 (25-90) with 3 HRs and 15 RBI in 27 games with the Redbirds overall and batted .300 (18-60) with 2 HRs and 13 RBI in 17 August games...Was recalled from Memphis on 9/1. Hit a two-run double and scored in 9th-inning rally on 9/14 vs. HOU.

Appeared in 109 games (92 at catcher) at Triple-A Indianapolis. Batted .232 with six homers and 43 RBI.
