CLAYTON JOHN ANDREWS...graduated from Seminole High School in Largo, FL, where he played baseball...was selected as team MVP, All-County, All-State and MVP of the Firecracker Tournament.
2000
Spent most of the season in the minor leagues and went 8-7, 4.82 in 18 starts and 1 relief appearance at Class AAA Syracuse...in his Major League debut went 1-2, 10.02 in 8g and 2 starts during 2 stints with the Blue Jays (4/16-5/15, 5/25-6/14)...began the season with the Chiefs and went 0-0, 0.75 in 2 starts before he was recalled on 4/16...went 0-0, 13.50 in 3 relief apps for Tor before he returned to Syracuse on 5/5...returned to the Blue Jays on 5/25 after going 1-1, 8.25 in 3 more starts for Syracuse...made 5 more apps for Tor, including 2 starts, before returning to Syracuse for the rest of the season...overall for the Blue Jays made his first 6 apps in relief and his last 2 apps as a starter...went 0-1, 19.80 in those 2 starts, received no decision in a 12-8 victory on 6/7 at Atl (3.2ip, 10h, 5er, 2bb, 1k) and suffered the 16-3 loss on 6/13 at Det (1.1ip, 8h, 6er, 1bb, 1k)...following that second loss was optioned back to Syracuse, where he spent the rest of the season...on 4/16 vs Sea made his Major League debut with a relief appearance in the 19-7 loss (2.1ip, 2h, 2er, 2bb, 3k)...in the 12-7 win at Det on 5/28 earned his first Major League victory by throwing 4.0 perfect innings...that outing was part of a 3-game stretch in which he retired 16 consecutive Major League batters (4/25-6/1)...while with Syracuse, threw at least 7.0 innings in 7 of his 18 starts and finished the season with 3 consecutive victories

In June 1999 was the Blue Jay organization's Pitcher of the Month...Spent most of the season at Class AA Knoxville, where he went 10-8, 3.93 in 25 starts...led the staff in victories and strikeouts (93)...won his last 4 decisions and 5 of his last 6 decisions...in June went 3-1, 1.64 to earn the organization's Pitcher of the Month Award...threw 14.0 consecutive scoreless innings over 2 starts on 6/6 and 6/11...finished the season with 3 starts at Class AAA Syracuse (0-1, 7.80)...in a poll by Baseball America, his breaking ball was voted best among all Blue Jays prospects

In 1998 was the South Atlantic League's Most Valuable Pitcher and was named to the mid-season and post-season All-Star teams...in May 1998 was the Blue Jay organization's Pitcher of the Month (4-1, 1.69)...also in 1998 was named SAL Pitcher of the Week from 5/11-5/17...At Hagerstown was named South Atlantic League Most Valuable Pitcher after posting a 10-7 record while leading the league with a 2.28era...ranked third in the SAL with a career-high 193 strikeouts...opponents hit just .195...in 19 of his 27 apps held opponents to 1 or 0 earned runs...in 5 starts recorded at least 10 strikeouts, including a season-high 15k on 6/5 vs Savannah...in May was the Blue Jay organization's Pitcher of the Month (4-1, 1.69)...in 4 starts from 5/3-5/20 went 3-0 and did not allow an earned run (26ip)...from 5/11-5/17 was named the SAL Pitcher of the Week following a 7-inning shutout of Charleston...in June went 2-1, 1.44...in August went 3-0, 1.98...was selected by Baseball America as the sixth-best prospect in the Blue Jay organization and the third-best pitching prospect...his control was voted best in the league
