The Braves bullpen blew four would-be wins for Chuck on the season. Of his 76 earned runs allowed, 32 of them (42%) came in the 5th or 6th inning. His ERA in the 5th inning: 4.50 (12 ER/24.0 IP); His ERA in the 6th: 14.59 (20 ER/12.1 IP). His batting average allowed 1st time through lineup: .243; 2nd time: .235; 3rd time: .348; 4th time: .500. Was 9-8 with a 4.08 ERA in 23 night games and 2-2 with a 4.78 ERA in seven day games. Went 5-6, 3.86 at home and 6-4, 4.63 on the road. Threw a season-high 106 pitches vs. STL on 7/20 and left with the score knotted at 1-1 through 7 innings. Chuck allowed a fourth-inning solo homer to Albert Pujols. The Braves lost the game 4-2. Pitched 6.0 shutout innings and left with a 4-0 lead on 7/14 vs. PIT, but lost the decision when the bullpen blew the lead in the seventh inning. For the game Chuck allowed just two hits. Defeated FLA on 6/29, allowing only a solo HR in his 6.2 IP in a 12-3 win. Retired 12 of the first 13 hitters and threw five scoreless innings before allowing four runs in the sixth inning on 6/24 vs. DET, taking the loss in a 5-0 shutout. Posted a 9-4 win over Curt Schilling and the Boston Red Sox on 6/18. Chuck went 5.1 innings, allowing just a pair of solo homers to Coco Crisp. Faced the Cubs for the second straight start on 6/7, getting a tough loss in a 2-1 defeat. Allowed just two runs on a season-high tying 7.0 IP. Notched fifth win with an impressive 2-1 win at MIL on 5/28. Carried a shutout into the sixth inning before Prince Fielder tagged him with a solo home run. Equaled his career best with eight Ks (6.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R). Carried a perfect game into the sixth inning and a no-hitter into the seventh in a 9-2 victory at Pittsburgh on 5/12. The perfecto was snapped with a walk to Jose Bautista to lead off the sixth, while the no-no was broken up with a one-out single by Jason Bay in the seventh. Chuck ended with 7.0 IP, 1 H, 3 BB, 3 K. Picked up his first loss of the season on 4/16 at Washington. Allowed three runs on five hits over five innings. It was James' first loss since 9/19/06, ending a four-game unbeaten streak. Made first start of the season on 4/5 at PHI, getting the win in an 8-4 victory. He allowed just a fourthinning run on six hits in his 5.0 IP.

Had a fine rookie campaign, going 11-4 with a 3.78 ERA in 25 games (18 starts)...Ranked fourth among NL rookies in ERA and tied for fourth in wins. His combined minor league totals included a 13-7 record with a 2.12 ERA, 193 strikeouts and 161.1 IP in 29 games (all starts)...Received the Phil Niekro Award, given annually to the top pitcher in the Braves' minor league system.... Was tabbed as the Braves' top pitching prospect by Sports Weekly and the seventh-best prospect by Baseball America. ... Opened the season at Class-A Myrtle Beach (4/8-5/9) and went 3-3 with a 1.08 ERA in seven games. ... Was promoted to Mississippi (AA) from 5/14 to 8/4 and went 9-1 with a 2.09 ERA in 16 games before finishing the minor league season at Richmond (AAA), where he was 1-3 with a 3.48 in six games. ... Had his contract purchased by the Braves on 9/15 and he appeared in two games, allowing one run and fanning five batters in 5.2 innings of work. ... Made his Major League debut on 9/28 vs. COL with 2.0 IP and three strikeouts. His first career strikeout victim was Brad Hawpe.

Honored as the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Year and was selected to the Sally League regular season and postseason All-Star teams...Led the Rome Braves and was tied for fourth among Braves minor leaguers in wins with 10...Recorded the second lowest ERA in the Sally League and the lowest ERA (2.25) for Rome and ranked second in the Sally League and led Rome in strikeouts (156)...Named the April Player of the month posting a 3-0 record with a 0.93 ERA, while striking out 21 in 19.1 IP...Continued to dominate the Sally League receiving May Pitcher of the month honors, earning three wins with a 1.82 ERA and averaged 1.02 strike outs per inning...Opponents hit just .109 during the month of May.
