Richard Brett Campbell
Richard B Campbell (Brett)...played collegiately at Kennesaw State (Ga.) University (2-1, 9 SV 2.57 ERA in 2004), Wallace (Ala.) State and the University of Georgia...one of five big leaguers from KSU (Jason Childers, Willie Harris, Jason Jones, Brian Maleette)...a 2000 graduate of Douglas County (Ga.) High...father, Brad, was drafted by Atlanta in '78.
2006
One of the top relief pitchers in the minor league system, earned first taste of the big leagues in just 3rd pro season...was recalled from New Orleans of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League on September 2 and posted a 10.38 ERA (5 ER/4.1 IP) in 4 games out of the bullpen for the Nationals...worked 1.1 scoreless inning, fanning one, in his big league debut on September 7 at COL...did not pitch after September 18 due to a back strain...with big league debut, became the 5th Kennesaw (GA) State Owl alum to reach the big leagues...Willie Harris (BOS, CWS and BAL), Jason Jones (TEX), Jason Childers (TBR) and Brian Mallette (MIL) were the first 4.
Game-By-Game Highlights: Fanned a career-best 2 in 1.0 perfect inning on September 15 vs. MIL.
In the Minor Leagues: Combined to go 3-5 with 16 saves and a 3.12 ERA (20 ER/57.2 IP) in 47 games at 3 levels in the Nationals minor league system...16 saves tied for 2nd in the Nationals system...posted a .237 batting average against and fanned 10.3 per 9.0 innings at the 3 levels...began the '06 campaign with Potomac of the Single-A Carolina League...went 3-1 with 8 saves and a 2.38 ERA for the P-Nats...did not allow an earned run in 14 of first 17 Carolina League appearances...in season's first 7 appearances, April 9-26, scattered just 2 hits in 8.0 scoreless innings...was promoted to Double-A Harrisburg and fanned 4 in 2.0 scoreless innings in Eastern League debut, June 3 at Binghamton...posted 8 saves and did not allow a home run in 13 games or 14.1 innings with Harrisburg before again being promoted...in 6 weeks with New Orleans, went 0-1 with a 3.92 ERA in 15 games out of the bullpen...posted a .189 batting average against and fanned 8.3 per 9.0 innings in the PCL.

Was a mid-season Single-A South Atlantic League All-Star after begining '05 with a string of 28.2 consecutive scoreless innings...notched 2 wins and 12 saves during the run, which encompassed 21 appearances throught June 8.

Selected in the 34th round of the First-Year Player Draft, pitched at 3 levels in the Expos chain, going a combined 1-2 with one save and a 4.00 ERA...in first pro campaign, fanned 9.5 batters per 9.0 innings pitched at the 3 levels.
