Name is pronounced boof bon-ser. Married (Jessica)...daughter (Julia, Jan. 17, 2010). Graduated from Gibbs (Fl) High school in 2000 ... named 2000 pinellas County (Fl) High school player of the year... played in the 2000 Florida state all-star Game. Legally changed his name from John to Boof, a nickname since childhood, after the 2001 season.

2012

Former number one draft pick by the Giants returned to organization in 2012, signing a minor league contract in January. Missed the first three-plus months of the season recovering from Tommy John surgery. Went on a rehab assignment with rookie level Arizona and was reinstated from the DL on July 12. Appeared in 11 games (7 starts) for triple-a Fresno, going 0-3 with a 4.50 era (17er, 34.0ip). Hit his first career home run on Aug. 28 vs. Reno...hit a solo shot off Trevor bauer to become the first Grizzlies pitcher to homer at home since Kevin Pickford in 2003.

2011

Appeared in one game for Triple-A Buffalo in early april 2011 and after just 4.0 innings of work he left the game due to a right forearm strain...underwent Tommy John surgery and missed the remainder of the season.

2010

Split the season between the Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics organizations after missing all of 2009 following right shoulder surgery...Worked exclusively out of the bullpen for the first time in his career...Began the season on Boston's 15-Day Disabled List with a right groin strain...Activated on June 7 and pitched in two games with the Red Sox before he was designated for assignment on June 18...Outrighted to Pawtucket on June 28 and elected free agency...Signed a minor league contract with the Athletics organization on July 3, and was assigned to Sacramento (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League...Went 1-0 with a 5.09 ERA in 13 relief appearances after Oakland selected his contract on July 31...Pitched just twice over his first 24 games with the A's, not allowing a run in 3.0 innings, including August 16th against Toronto when he tossed 2.0 shutout innings in his 100th career appearance...Tossed 4.1 scoreless innings of relief, his longest career outing as a reliever, at New York (AL) on August 31...Tossed a scoreless seventh inning, September 20 against Chicago (AL) to pick up the win...It was his first victory since June 4, 2008 against Baltimore...First batters faced were 1-12 (.083) with two walks (.214 on-base percentage) against him, including 0-11 with a walk with the A's...Had two rehabilitation assignments with Pawtucket (AAA) of the International League from April 8-April 13 and May 7-June 4...Was used exclusively as a starter at Sacramento where he went 2-1 with a 4.56 ERA in five starts...Won each of his final two starts, including his last outing on July 27 when he allowed a run on four hits in a season-high 7.2 innings vs. Colorado Springs.

2008

Tossed 6.0-plus innings in first three starts of season, going 1-2, 3.32 (19.0 ip, 7 er), April 1-12...tied season-high with 7.0 innings and had season-high eight strikeouts, April 29 vs. Chicago (AL)...made second career relief appearance (first of season) and recorded the win with 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, June 4 vs. Baltimore...did not allow a run in three appearances (4.0 ip), June 25-July 2...tossed 2.1 scoreless innings of relief, striking out three, August 9 at Kansas City...posted a 2.40 ERA over 10 appearances in August...pitched a scoreless inning in back-to-back games vs. the White Sox, September 24 and 25...was 2-6, 5.97 (66.1 ip, 44 er) in 12 starts and 1-1, 5.88 (52.0 ip, 34 er) in 35 relief appearances.
