2022
In the first year of his new three-year contract with the Giants, DeSclafani was plagued by the remnants of a right ankle injury he suffered towards the end of last season...he made only five starts during the regular season, going 0-2 with a 6.63 ERA and 17 strikeouts...He first went on the IL with right ankle inflammation on April 22, a day after he’d allowed five runs on nine hits in 5.0 innings to the Mets at Citi Field...saw Dr. Anderson, a foot and ankle specialist in Green Bay, WI on April 25 and an MRI confirmed the right ankle inflammation...after a few weeks, DeSclafani was transferred to the 60-day IL on May 16 and would not be eligible to return until June 21...he came off as scheduled on June 21 but only made two more starts before going back on the IL with the same right ankle inflammation on June 28...After going on the IL a second time, DeSclafani elected to have surgery on the right ankle to fix his peroneal tendon which is on the outside of the ankle joint...the surgery was performed by Dr. Robert Anderson in Green Bay, Wisc., on July 21 and he missed the remainder of the season...Never pitched more than 5.0 innings and never threw more than 83 pitches in any of his five starts for SF...also made two rehab starts with Triple-A Sacramento trying to return from the injury during his first IL stint.

Finished his first season in San Francisco with a 13-7 record while registering the lowest ERA (3.17) of his career...his 13 wins were also the most of his career...DeSclafani's 31 starts matched a career-best (also 31 in 2019 and 2015) and the Giants were 21-10 in games he started...His 152 strikeouts were the second-most of his career behind 167 in 2019 with Cincinnati...Finished among the NL leaders tied for first in shutouts (two), tied for fourth in complete games (two), tied for 10th in wins (13), 11th in ERA (3.17), 13th in BAA (.225) and 13th in WHIP (1.09)...Was 10-3 with a 2.68 ERA (32er, 107.1ip) with 99 strikeouts to 29 walks with a .201 BAA before the All-Star break...went 3-4 with a 4.03 ERA (27er, 60.1ip) after the break...Missed a total of 17 games across two separate stints on the IL (August 3-13 with right shoulder fatigue and August 19-29 with right ankle inflammation)...In six regular-season starts vs. the Dodgers, DeSclafani was 0-3 with a 7.33 ERA (22er, 27.0ip) with 27 strikeouts, 15 walks and a .300 BAA...SF was 3-3 in those six outings...Against the rest of the league he went 13-4 with a 2.37 ERA (37er, 140.2ip), 125 strikeouts, 27 walks and a .209 BAA. ...Was 8-3 with a 3.10 ERA (25er, 72.2ip) in 14 starts at Oracle Park and held opposing hitters to a .225 BAA...in his last six starts at home he posted a 1.50 ERA (5er, 30.0ip) and a BAA of .198 (21x106)...Held right-handed batters to a .577 OPS, seventh-lowest in the NL among qualified starters...RHB's hit .204 off DeSclafani, eighth-lowest in the NL...Averaged 15.3 pitches per inning, sixth-lowest in the National League among starters and the lowest rate of his career...his 3.78 pitches per batter faced were 10th-fewest.

Spent the season on the disabled list with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow...didn't pitch for the Reds in spring training...was disabled on 4/2...was transferred to the 60-day DL on 4/5, when the Reds claimed off waivers from the Phillies IF/OF Tyler Goeddel...on 7/23 for the AZL Reds made his first rehabilitation appearance...following that start was transferred to Dayton...on 7/29 at Fort Wayne, threw 4.0 innings for the Dragons...on 8/3 at Great Lakes for Dayton, left his third rehab start after 9 batters with right elbow tendinitis...didn't pitch again until the instructional league.
2016
Began the season on the disabled list with a strained left oblique, suffered in his final spring training start...made consecutive rehab apps on 4/23 for Pensacola and 4/29 for Dayton before he felt soreness in the oblique...didn't make another rehab start until 5/25...on 6/10 was reinstated from the 15-day DL and that night vs the A's made his season debut in the Reds' 61st game...began the season 6-0, 2.94 through 11 starts...became the first Reds pitcher to produce at least 6 wins without a loss over his first 9 starts since Paul Wilson went 6-0 in his first 9 starts in 2004...through 17 starts went 8-3, 2.93...in his last 3 starts went 1-2, 5.63 to raise his overall ERA to 3.28...in 14 of his 20 apps produced quality starts, including a season-high 6 straight QS from 6/21-7/20 (5-0, 2.59)...coming out of the All-Star break made 11 starts (5-3, 3.30) before he skipped a turn on 9/12...returned to the rotation on 9/17 and didn't miss any of his last 3 starts (1-2, 5.63)...in the 13-0 win on 8/27 at Ari threw his first career complete game.
