Andres Galarraga #14

Andrés Galarraga, 43, agreed to terms on a minor league contract with the Angels, Aug. 4. He appeared in 25 games with the Stingers, batting .304 (31/102) with 10 runs scored, three doubles, four home runs and 19 RBI. In Nov. 2003, Galarraga was diagnosed with a recurrence of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, which caused him to miss the entire 1999 season. He underwent surgery in November and had a transplant in February to eliminate the disease from his body. A native of Caracas, Venezuela, Galarraga last played in the major leagues with San Francisco in 2003. He batted .301 (82/272) with 36 runs scored, 15 doubles, 12 home runs and 42 RBI in 110 games. Galarraga owns a career .288 (2330/8086) average with 398 home runs and 1,423 RBI in 2250 games. He has appeared in the major leagues with the Expos (1985-91, 2002), Cardinals (1992), Rockies (1993-97), Braves (1998, 2000), Giants (2001, 2003) and Rangers (2001). Galarraga has been selected to five All-Star Games (1988, 1993, 1997-98 & 2000), appeared in three Division Series (1995, 1998 & 2000) and one NLCS with Atlanta in 1998.

2004

September call-up was signed to a minor league deal in part so he could try to get to the career 400-home run mark. ... Forty-three-year-old got 10 at-bats down the stretch, hitting one homer to up his career total to 399. ... Two-time cancer survivor indicated he'll probably retire at 399 to spend more time with his family.

1985

Named American Association Rookie of Year in 1st season at triple-A level...hit .269 with 25 home runs and 87 RBI for Indianapolis...was recalled by Montreal August 23 and collected 1st Major League hit next day off LA's Rick Honeycutt...hit 1st ML home run Sept. 21 at St. Louis.

1986

Hit .271 in 105 games despite being hampered by injuries in rookie campaign...in 1st start, April 10 at Atlanta, went 3-for-3 with 2B, HR and 3 RBI.

1987

Hit .305 with 13 home runs and 90 RBI in just 2nd full season...started year hitting in No. 3 spot in order, but after being moved to 5-hole May 2, hit safely in 16 of 17 games (.426)...had 14-game hitting streak May 9-23...hit .341 through June with 54 RBI in 69 games.

1988
