Alfredo Amezaga
Alfredo, who has played in all or parts of nine major league seasons, signed a minor league deal with Chicago, January 13, 2012, and is an invitee to major league spring training...Owns a .247 career batting average (348-for-1,408) with 47 doubles, 19 triples, 12 home runs and 110 RBI in 584 major league contests with the Angels (2002-04), Rockies (2005, 2011), Pirates (2005) and Marlins (2006-09, 2011)...Versatile in the field, has played every position except for pitcher and catcher...has 255 career games in center field, his most at any position...has 117 contests at shortstop...In 2004, connected for two grand slams out of four total extra-base hits (two doubles)...set a major league record for fewest extra-base hits with two grand slams in a season, breaking Baltimore's Fritz Connally's record of seven set in 1985...Graduated from Miami (Fla.) High School.
2011
Alfredo signed with Colorado in January and started the year at Triple-A before being called up in late April...was traded to Florida, August 6, for minor league infielder Jesus Merchan...appeared in 40 big league games between the Rockies and Marlins, hitting .182 (14-for-77)...Primarily played second base, recording a .986 fielding percentage (1 E/74 TC) in 16 games (14 starts)...Batted .204 (10-for-49) against righthanders compared to a .143 mark (4-for-28) against southpaws...Made his big league season debut with the Rockies, April 29...went on to hit .242 (8-for-33) in 20 games for Colorado...Played in 20 games for the Marlins following his trade...went 6-for-44 (.136) with two RBI...In two stints with Triple-A Colorado Springs, batted .305 (73-for-239) with 19 doubles, a triple, four homers and 41 RBI in 67 games.
