Acquired by Boston from the Nationals at the start of Spring Training (February 15), spent all but the final five days of the season at Triple-A Pawtucket before a September 1 promotion to Boston for his major league debut...batted .300 with three homers, 43 RBI and 21 steals for Pawtucket...was named the organization's Minor League Base Runner of the Year...with the Red Sox, went 1-for-5 (.200) with four runs scored in 10 games in his first career major league stint...in his third at-bat, collected his first big league hit September 18 vs. Oakland...doubled to right off Kirk Saarloos...appeared four times as a pinch runner...did not start a game, but appeared at five different positions...played three games at second base, two in left field, two in center field, one in right field and one at shortstop...with Pawtucket, appeared in 69 games at second base, 39 at shortstop and seven in the outfield...at the time of his September 1 promotion to Boston, was 11th in the International League in batting and was tied with George Lombard for the team lead in stolen bases...registered a .304 average (35-for-115) with runners in scoring position and a .327 (17-for-52) mark with runners in scoring position and two outs...hit .325 (62-for-191) with men on base and .333 (27-for-81) with men on and two outs...hit .353 (6-for-17) with 12 RBI with the bases loaded.

Hit .287 with 59 runs scored and 19 steals in 78 games for Kansas City's Double-A Wichita club before being sent to the Brewers with righthander Wes Obermueller and cash for righty Curtis Leskanic on July 2...joined Double-A Huntsville and hit .226 with 11 stolen bases in 45 games, including 40 starts at second base, the rest of the season...with Wichita, made 75 starts at second base and one at shortstop...batted .198 (17-for-86) in 23 April contests before hitting .325 (66-for-203) over his final 55 games in the Royals chain...stole only 6 bases through his first 62 games and swiped 13 in his final 16 games June 12-July 1 before the trade...strung together an 11-game hitting streak June 6-19, batting .400 (20-for-50).

2002

Was named the utility infielder on the Carolina League All-Star team after posting the league's 3rd-best average (.314) and stealing 20 bases for the Royals' Single-A Wilmington club...hit only .255 in 49 games through May, and batted .366 over 52 games the rest of the way, including a .422 mark (27-for-64) in 21 July contests...after a 4-hit effort July 15 vs. Lynchburg, his average did not dip below .300 over his final 33 games...hit .323 against righthanders and .282 against lefties...batted .352 with the bases empty...started 98 of his 101 games at shortstop, his only full year at the position.

2001

Batted .271 with 20 steals in 82 games for Atlanta's Single-A Macon affiliate before getting traded with righthander Brad Voyles to the Royals for infielder Rey Sanchez July 31...went on to hit .239 with 5 steals in 28 games for Kansas City's Single-A Burlington club...hit his first professional home run April 23 vs. Charleston (SC)...went 5-for-5 June 12 at Charleston (SC)...played 68 games at second base, 14 at shortstop and 3 as the designated hitter with Macon...played all 28 games with Burlington at shortstop.

2000

Led the rookie-level Appalachian League with a .477 on-base percentage for the Braves' Danville squad...also ranked first with 53 walks, 2nd with a .341 average and 74 hits, and 3rd with 30 steals...was named to the Appalachian League All-Star team at second base, as well as Baseball America's Appalachian League All-Star club and Topps' All-Teen team...his walk total of 53 is 83 percent higher than his strikeout total of 29...had at least one steal in 6 straight games July 24 (Game 2)-31, swiping 7 bags in all...stole 3 bases as part of a 4-for-7 effort vs. Princeton in the 2nd game of a double-header 2 days later...finished the season with a career-best 15-game hitting streak August 16-31, batting .426 (23-for-54) to raise his average to .341 from .313.

1999

Led the Gulf Coast League with 45 runs and 223 at-bats, while finishing 3rd with 62 hits and 56 games played in his first pro season...struck out once every 11.45 plate appearances, the 2nd-best ratio in the league...posted a .348 on-base percentage and stole 19 bases...had 3 steals June 28 vs. the Mets and July 24 vs. the Marlins.
