Spent the majority of the season with Atlanta,
going 4-3 with a 6.51 ERA in 36 relief appearances...started the season strong, going 3-0 with a 2.42 ERA (7 ER/26.0 IP) in his first 20 outings, but was 1-3 with an 11.57 ERA (27 ER/21.0 IP) in his final 16 games leading to his July 14 option to Triple-A Richmond...went 5-5 with a 3.40 ERA in 10 games (9 starts) with
Richmond.
2004
Missed the first 75 games while on the D.L. with a right shoulder impingement...Picked up the win with 2.0 shutout innings of relief 7/4 vs. DET, his first win since 5/31, 2003, snapping an
eight-game losing streak that spanned 39 appearances...Made two spot starts vs. SF, 7/7 and 7/18...Earned a loss and ND while allowing five runs in each game...Alternated between the Colorado bullpen and the Colorado Springs (AAA) rotation for the remainder of the
season...Pitched in only four of Colorado's final 26 games after his recall on 9/7...Tossed 3.0 shutout innings vs. STL on 9/26, allowing just one hit while striking out four.
2003
Began the 2003 season in Detroit's starting rotation before being acquired by Colorado prior to
the All-Star Break...he would go on to make 31 relief appearances for the Rockies, posting an 0-2 record
with a 5.23 ERA, 13 walks and 26 strikeouts...got off to a great start in a Rox uniform, allowing just 2 earned
runs in his first 13.2 innings in the National League (1.32 ERA)...but then allowed 17 runs in his final 19.0
innings (8.05 ERA)...was holding the opposition to a .182 average against (8-for-44) in his first 14 games
with Colorado but the league batted .313 off him in his last 17 contests (25-for-80)...retired 18-of-31 first
batters faced and allowed 9-of-13 inherited runners to score...compiled a 3.50 ERA in 14 appearances at
Coors Field (18.0 ip, 7 er) versus a 7.36 ERA in 17 road outings (14.2 ip, 12 er)...prior to his move West,
Adam started 17 games for the Tigers with one relief appearance, going 1-12 with a 6.08 ERA (100.2 ip,
68 er)...the club was 1-16 in his his 17 starts...received the worst run support in the majors, as Detroit averaged
just 2.5 runs per 9.0 innings with Bernero on the mound (28/100.2)...threw a combined 133.1 innings
between Detroit and Colorado with a joint record of 1-14, 5.87 ERA...in the 49 games he pitched in, his
teams were 13-36...made his first Opening Day roster on what was the major league's youngest team...at
26 years, five months, he was actually the oldest member of Detroit's starting rotation, a group that included
Gary Knotts (26 yrs, 1 month), Mike Maroth (25), Nate Cornejo (23) and Jeremy Bonderman
(20)...worked 6.0 or more innings in 11 of his 17 starts, going 7.0-plus on six occasions with seven "quality
starts"...kept the Tigers in most games, as the club lost nine of his starts by two or fewer runs...opened
the year by losing his first six decisions covering 10 starts from April 3 to May 25...then switched his jersey
number from #24 to #49 prior to his May 31st start vs. the Yankees and earned his only victory of the year
that day...worked 7.0 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while matching a career high with 7 K's...the win
was his first in 17 starts dating back to Sept. 25, 2002, snapping a Tigers franchise record...but after that
victory, Adam lost five consecutive starts June 5-July 2, posting a 6.82 ERA (33.0 ip, 25 er)...was then
moved into the bullpen and made one appearance July 6 at Kansas City before joining the
Rockies...worked a scoreless inning in his Rox debut, July 17 at Pac Bell...was in line for his first professional
save on Aug. 1 at Pittsburgh, as he entered with an 11-9 lead and two on and two outs in the bottom
of the ninth...Tike Redman fouled off four 2-strike pitches from Bernero before delivering a game-tying 2-
run triple...next batter Jason Kendall singled to give Pittsburgh a 12-11 win, capping a 5-run ninth-inning
rally...Adam's only other decision was also a loss, Sept. 2 at SF, when he gave up a solo homer to Feliz
which broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh...struggled down the stretch, as after a 1.08 ERA in July (8.1 ip, 1 er),
he then had a 6.17 ERA in August (11.2 ip, 8 er) and a 7.11 ERA in September (12.2 ip, 10 er).
2002
- A solid start to the season at Triple A Toledo prompted his promotion to Detroit on May 21...was 2-2 with a 1.58 ERA in nine starts for Toledo prior to his recall... appeared in 28 games for the Tigers, starting 11 games.
- Recorded his first major league win in a 9-2 victory on May 26 at Chicago, limiting the White Sox to two runs on four hits in eight innings...after allowing two runs in the fourth inning, he settled down to retire 14 of the final 15 batters he faced.
- Tied for sixth among American League rookies with 69 strikeouts and 10th with 101.2 innings pitched.
- His first 11 appearances for Detroit were starts...was 2-6 with a 6.72 ERA (64.1IP/48ER) as a starter; 2-1, 5.30 ERA (37.1IP/22ER) in 17 games as a reliever.
- Had quality starts in five of his first six outings, with a 2.55 ERA in the five starts.
- Suffered the loss on May 31 versus Toronto (4-2), allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits in seven innings...retired first nine batters faced.

- Took a no-decision in a 3-1 loss to Randy Johnson and Arizona on June 15...pitched six innings and allowed a run on four hits while walking one and fanning four... bullpen allowed go-ahead run in the seventh inning.
- Received a tough no-decision in start on June 20 at Atlanta...allowed one run on five hits in eight-plus innings in the 3-2 loss, walking none and fanning four...pitched eight scoreless innings, then allowed double to Julio Franco in the ninth before being pulled...bullpen allowed two runs on two hits for the loss.
- Allowed 31 runs in his last five starts, going 0-4 with a 9.91 ERA (26.1IP/29ER) before being assigned to the bullpen on July 23.
