Jose Ernesto Hernandez … Was traded by the Pirates to the Dodgers on June 13, 2024, more than eight years after the Dodgers signed him as an international free agent … Loved playing basketball as a teenager in Puerto Plata, the hometown of NBA player Al Horford … One of three Hernandezes to appear at Spring Training for the Dodgers in 2025, along with Kiké and Teoscar … Would be the second player with his name to suit up for the Dodgers, following infielder-outfielder José Hernández, who hit 13 home runs for the 2004 squad.

2024

Began the season in the Rockies organization before signing a Minor League contract with Boston as a free agent...Pitched in seven games for Pittsburgh, going 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA (2 ER/5.1 IP) with a save and four strikeouts...Garnered his first Major League save on March 28 at MIA, tossing 1.0 perfect inning...In three stints for Triple-A Indianapolis, going 0-0 with a 7.04 ERA (12 ER/15.1 IP) in 14 games with 21 strikeouts against nine walks...Traded to Los Angeles-NL on June 13, beginning with Rookie-level ACL Dodgers and tossing a 1-0 record in three scoreless games (one start)...Finished out the season with Triple-A Oklahoma City, pitching a 1-1 record with a 4.50 ERA (9 ER/18.0 IP).

2023

Rule 5 Draft selection made his Major League debut on 4/1 at Cincinnati; faced a total of four batters while tossing a scoreless eighth inning…Made three scoreless appearances (3.1ip) to begin his career…Made five consecutive scoreless outings (6.1ip) between 4/12-30... Went a combined 4-4 with a 3.32 ERA (59.2ip/22er), 69 strikeouts, .215 batting average against and 1.21 WHIP in 51 appearances (two starts) between Great Lakes (Dodgers’ High-A) and Tulsa (Dodgers’ Double-A)… Began the season with Great Lakes, where he was charged with one earned run, struck out 18 batters and recorded a .156 batting average against and 0.98 WHIP in his last 13 appearances (17.1ip) before being promoted to Double-A on 5/28…Tossed 1.0 scoreless inning in his Double-A debut on 5/28 vs. Springfield…Allowed one run in 1.0 inning in his first start of the season on 7/17 at Springfield…Made his second and final start on 7/31 vs. Arkansas…Recorded a 2.93 ERA (15.1ip/5er), 26 strikeouts, .135 batting average against and 1.04 WHIP in his last 15 outings from 8/7 through the remainder of the season (four of his five earned runs in that stretch came in one outing on 9/11).
