Was born in Salinas, CA. Salinas is known as the "Salad Bowl of the World" for its large, vibrant agriculture industry. It was the hometown of writer and Nobel laureate John Steinbeck (1902–68), who set many of his stories in the Salinas Valley and Monterey. Was a fan of the Oakland A's growing up after living in Salinas for most of his youth. While attending Tigard (OR) High School, Duron had aspirations of being a firefighter. Both his great grandfather (Glenn) and his uncle (Larry) were firefighters. Duron and his family moved from California to Oregon after his parents changed jobs and relocated to Tigard before his final two years of high school. Was committed to play football at Western Oregon before committing to baseball. Western Oregon wanted to have him play outside linebacker after he was a tight end and defensive end at Tigard.
