2022 Spring Training:
Was a member of the Rangers’ Major League Spring Training camp as a non-roster invite, batting .571/.684/1.357/2.041 (8-14) with two doubles, three home runs, and eight RBI over 10 Cactus League ‘A’ game appearances…worked four walks against just two strikeouts…tied for the Texas spring lead in HR, RBI, and extra-base hits (5), and his 19 total bases were third-most among Rangers to only Brad Miller (22) and Andy Ibáñez (20)…hit three HR over a span of four G from 3/28-4/3…posted spring highs in hits (three) and RBI (four) as part of Texas’ record-setting 25-12 win on 3/21 at CLE...signed by the Rangers to a Minor League contract with an invite to Major League Spring Training on 2/2.
Orix:
Spent the 2022 campaign with the Orix Buffaloes of Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan, batting .225 (40-178) with four home runs and 19 RBI over 59 games…saw majority of his playing time against right-handed pitching despite posting reverse splits (.280 BA vs. LHP, .216 BA vs. RHP)…made starts at first base (29) and in left field (seven)…also had stint with Orix’s Western League Minors affiliate, slashing .294/.351/.706/1.057 (10-34) with four HR and 11 RBI over 13 games…agreed to contract with Orix on 4/15 and was officially released by Texas on 4/20.
2021
Slashed .306/.384/.542/.926 (84-276) with 15 HR, 18 2B, and 55 RBI in 74 G while spending entire season with Sacramento before season-ending IL stint…had career highs in BA, SLG, and OPS, while recording 32 BB against 61 SO… his .926 OPS ranked 8th in Triple-A West (min. 300 PA’s)… produced an 18-game hit streak from 5/24-6/17, tying all-time record for Giants era in Sacramento…selected Triple-A West Player of the Week for the week ending 6/6…placed on IL for the duration of the season on 8/17 with left shin contusion…last game was 8/16 at Salt Lake…at time of injury, was T10th in the league in RBI and just out of the top 10 in several other categories…hit .283 (17-60) vs. LHP, easily his best showing since pro debut in 2015 (.312 BA vs. LHP).
2020
Made his first career Opening Day roster and appeared in four games (three starts) going 0-for-10 before being optioned to the Giants' Alternate Training Site on July 30...Made his Major League debut July 23 at Dodger Stadium, starting in right field and going 0-for-4...Was designated for assignment on Aug. 20 as the Giants called up top prospect Joey Bart...cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A on Aug. 27.
2019
On July 31, the Rays traded McCarthy to the Giants in exchange for minor league LHP Jacob Lopez...McCarthy was assigned to Triple-A Sacramento and hit .165 with a homer and four RBI in 79 at-bats.
2018
Was limited to 47 games with Durham due to a back injury…was placed on the disabled list on May 25 and missed nearly three months…played in 3 games with the GCL Rays on a rehab assignment and was transferred to Class-A Charlotte for 3 games after his reinstatement....Between the three levels, hit .244/.356/.461 (44for-180) with 8 HR and 27 RBI…his 8 HR tied a career high despite missing significant time...Hit .294 (10-for-34) with 3 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR and 6 RBI in 9 games in the International League postseason, helping the Bulls win a second consecutive Governors' Cup…hit a 1st-inning solo homer and 4th-inning bases-clearing double in the Governors' Cup-clinching win over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Yankees)...Hit .239/.375/.370 (11-for-46) with 1 HR and 8 RBI in 13 games for the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League...Ranked by Baseball America as the No. 25 prospect in the Rays system following the season.
2017
Led the Southern League with 90 BB and tied for 1st with 8 3B…also ranked among league leaders in avg. (.284, 10th), runs (76, 5th) doubles (31, tied for 3rd) and on-base pct. (.409, 2nd)…spent the entire season with Double-A Montgomery and was named to the SL postseason All-Star Team…hit 2 HR in the 5-game series loss to Chattanooga (Twins) in the SL Semifinals…named SL Player of the Week for June 19-25 and July 17-23…named to the Rays Organizational All-Star Team by MLB.com…ranked by Baseball America as the No. 17 prospect in the Rays system following the season…the publication also tabbed him as having the Best Strike-Zone Discipline in the organization… ranked as the Best Defensive First Baseman in the SL in its Best Tools survey.

Split the season between Class-A Bowling Green and Class-A Charlotte, batting .285/.398/.430 (100-for-351) with 21 2B, 8 HR and 60 RBI…combined to appear in 60 games (58 starts) at first base, his first professional action there…finished 8th among Rays minor leaguers in avg. …named to the Rays Organizational All-Star Team by MLB.com… ranked by Baseball America as the No. 20 prospect in the Rays system following the season.
