Missed the first 63 games of the season with a left calf strain suffered in a Spring Training game on April 3...went on the 60-day Injured List on Opening Day....At the time of his injury, his 14 hits ranked T-2nd among the Major League spring training leaders (finished T-7th)...finished spring training leading the team in hits, OBP (.630), OPS (1.456) and five two-hit games...hit safely in each of his last six Spring Training apps and in nine of his last 10 games....After 11 rehab appearances at Louisville (May 28-June 15), was reinstated on June 17 from the 60-day IL and joined CIN....Made his 13 appearances during two stints with CIN...from June 17-July 4, he hit .167 in 11 app. and four starts (4-for-24, one RBI, one walk)...from July 14-16 went 0-for-2 in a pair of PH app....Made his four starts for the Reds at four different positions -- at DH on June 26 @ SF (1-for-5), in LF on June 28 @ CHC (0-for-4), in RF on June 30 @ CHC (0-for-3, BB, R) and at 2B on July 3 vs. ATL (1-for-4)....In the 15-7 loss on June 30 @ CHC made his fourth career pitching appearance (1.0 IP, seven hits, five ER, 0 BB, two home runs, 26 pitches)....allowed a two-run HR to P.J. Spent most of the season at the Cardinals’ alternate training site but made his Major League debut by playing in 11 games... Made all 11 of his apps from 8/5-8/28...was on the roster twice more, from 9/16-9/17 and 9/28-9/29, but did not play in a game... Played 2B (5g, 3gs) and 3B (2g, 1gs)... On 8/15 made his Major League debut in a 6-3 Cardinals win at White Sox...started at 2B in the nightcap of a doubleheader sweep...in the fifth inning, in his second career plate appearance, singled off Jimmy Cordero for his first Major League hit...singled again in his next plate appearance, in the sixth inning, off Jace Fry... Also made a pitching appearance...in the 14-2 loss to the Indians on 8/28 threw eight pitches in a perfect ninth inning (Tyler Naquin F8, Jordon Luplow FP2, Roberto Perez 6-3)... Hit his only Major League home run in a 5-4 loss to the Cubs in the nightcap of a doubleheader at Wrigley Field on 8/17 (solo off Kyle Ryan)...was the second of the Cardinals’ only set of back-to-back HR all season, preceded by Brad Miller’s homer... Was invited to Major League Spring Training but injured his oblique on the first day of practice and did not appear in a game until exhibition games in Montréal and was 2-for-2 with an RBI triple vs. TOR (3/26)...Batted .323 (30-93) during the month of April in Memphis (AAA) leading the Redbirds in hits (30)...Played in 114 games, starting 76 at second base, 14 at third base and four in left field...Ranked as the 2nd Toughest to Strike Out in the Pacific Coast League (12.69 TPA/SO)...Twice went 10 consecutive games without a strike out during the season (5/25-6/7 & 6/22-7/2)...Hit a three-run home run in his first game as a member of the Cardinals organization for Memphis (AAA) at Round Rock (4/5)... Led all of minor league baseball with 177 hits after batting .331 with 32 doubles, two triples, nine home runs and 71 RBI in 129 games with Single-A Hagerstown and Single-A Potomac in the Washington organization and Single-A Stockton and Double-A Midland in the A's organization…his batting average ranked ninth among all full season minor leaguers…also stole 22 bases…struck out just 42 times, an average of 13.7 plate appearances per strikeout…began the season at Hagerstown where he hit .326 in 67 games…was promoted to Potomac June 27 and batted .341 in 54 games…combined for a .333 batting average with the two clubs and led the Nationals farm system in batting…was traded to the A's Aug. 25 in the Marc Rzepczynski deal and went 1-for-9 (.111) in two games with Stockton and 9-for-23 (.391) in six games with Midland for a .313 average in eight games in the Oakland farm system…had 57 multiple hit games, including 13 three-hit games, one four-hit game and two five-hit games…hit .344 (135- for-392) with 40 of his 43 extra base hits against right-handed pitching compared to .295 (42-for-142) against left-handers…slugged .490 against righties, .338 against lefties…had a .311 batting average with runners in scoring position, but that dropped to .237 with RISP and two outs…appeared in 108 games at second base and two at shortstop (both with Potomac)…committed 12 errors as a second baseman for a .974 fielding percentage…did not have an error in three chances at shortstop…also hit .273 in 19 games as the designated hitter…saw his most action with 94 games batting second in the order.
