Roenis signed a minor league contract with the Cubs, Dec. 20, 2022....Has spent parts of seven Major League seasons with Seattle (2014-15, 2018-19, 2022), Boston (2016-17) and Washington (2019)....Has gone 22-24 with a 3.96 ERA (174 ER/395.2 IP) and 14 saves in 133 games (54 starts)....Missed the majority of the 2020 and 2021 seasons after undergoing Tommy John surgery....Was acquired by the Red Sox, Dec. 7, 2015 with RHP Carson Smith for LHP Wade Miley and RHP Jonathan Aro....Enjoyed a breakout year in 2014, making his first Opening Day roster...went 10-12 with a 3.85 ERA (70 ER/163.2 IP), becoming the seventh Mariner rookie in franchise history with at least 10 wins....Signed by Seattle as an international free agent, May 3, 2011....As a native of Guantanamo, Cuba, defected and established residency in Mexico in 2010 after playing for Guantanamo in Serie Nacional.

2022

Roenis in 2022 made his first Major League appearance since 2019, appearing in seven games in relief for Seattle... Spent the majority of the season with Triple-A Tacoma, going 3-3 with a 5.12 ERA (37 ER/65.0 IP) in 37 games (nine starts)...Had his contract purchased as a replacement player, May 16 and tossed 1.0 inning in relief that night in Toronto... Was designated for assignment, June 20 and outrighted to Tacoma, June 23, where he spent the remainder of the season.

2021

Spent the season on the Injured List recovering from Tommy John Surgery...began spring training with Seattle, tossing three scoreless outings before having his season cut short due to injury.

2020

Spent season on the 60-day Injured List with a left flexor strain, July 13-Sept. 28... outrighted by the Nationals and elected free agency on Oct. 11.

2019

Appeared in just four games for Washington...His arrival was hampered by a strained right hamstring suffered his first outing with the Nationals, Aug. 2 at Arizona...Joined the Nationals at the Trade Deadline after going 4-2 with 14 saves, a 4.40 ERA (23 ER/47.0 IP) and 45 strikeouts in 44 games for the Seattle Mariners...His 14 saves ranked tenth in the American League at the time of the trade...With the Mariners, he worked more than 1.0 inning on seven occasions and at least 2.0 innings in five outings...When pitching more than one inning, opposing batters went 5-for-49 (.102) with one double and one home run...He struck out 20 batters, issued five walks and posted a 0.68 WHIP in those seven outings (14.2 IP).

2018

Missed the majority of his 2nd season with the Red Sox on the disabled list...Began the season on the 10-day DL with a right oblique strain... Transferred to the 60-day DL on 6/15. Made 7 rehab starts with High-A Salem (5/7), Short-A Lowell (7/17), Double-A Portland (7/22), and Triple-A Pawtucket (7/27-8/11). Reinstated from the 60-day DL and optioned to Pawtucket on 8/17...Made 3 more starts for the PawSox. Recalled by BOS on 9/1 and made his lone ML appearance on 9/4 vs. TOR (0.1 IP, BB, SO).

2016

Pitched in 3 games (1 start) over 3 ML stints in his 1st season with the Red Sox. Also made 19 starts and 2 relief appearances with Triple-A Pawtucket...Led the PawSox with a .667 winning percentage and tied for the team lead with 10 wins while posting a 3.60 ERA (50 ER/125.0 IP) and striking out 113. Recalled from Pawtucket on 4/22 and made his Red Sox debut at HOU the following day, allowing 3 ER in 1.2 innings of relief...Optioned back to Pawtucket on 4/24. From 5/18-6/10 with the PawSox, went 4-0 with a 2.00 ERA (8 ER/36.0 IP), 40 SO, and a .194 opponent AVG. Fanned a career-high 13 hitters in a 5/18 win vs. Norfolk, becoming the 1st PawSox pitcher to record as many strikeouts in a single game since a 15-SO performance by Jin Ho Cho in 1999. Earned a complete-game win on 6/5 at Norfolk, the 1st CG by a PawSox player since Steven Wright on 6/26/15. After a scoreless start vs. Louisville on 6/10, had not allowed an earned run in his last 13.0 innings when he was recalled by BOS on 6/17...Made his 1st start with the Red Sox (50th career start) and his 1st career appearance at Fenway Park that day vs. SEA, allowing 7 ER over 4.0 IP in a loss...Optioned back to Pawtucket following the game. With SEA, held left-handed batters to a .227 AVG/.299 OBP/.309 SLG line (22-for-97, 8 BB, 34 SO). Made his first career Opening Day roster despite not having pitched above Double-A…was 10-12 with a 3.85 ERA (70 ER, 163.2 IP) with 143 strikeouts and 64 walks in 29 starts…became 7th rookie pitcher in club history with at least 10 wins in a season…One of seven MLB rookies to record 10 or more wins…among AL rookie pitchers, ranked 3rd in starts and innings, T4th in strikeouts and 7th in wins…posted a 2.31 ERA (3-4 record) in 10 starts after the All-Star break; was 7-8 with a 4.54 ERA (57 ER, 113.0) in 19 starts before the break…tossed a three-hit shutout on June 1 vs. Detroit, becoming first Mariners rookie to throw a shutout since Freddy Garcia on Aug. 24, 1999 vs. Detroit… made his big league debut April 3 at Oakland (5.0,2,1,1,3,3); had a no-hitter through 4.2 innings…became the 6th starting pitcher in Mariners history to allow 1-or-fewer runs in a MLB debut…struck out a career-high 10 batters on May 1 at New York-AL…shut down for the season after leaving his start on Sept. 16 at LAA with a strained flexor bundle in his left elbow

Spent season with Jackson, making 22 starts…finished 7th in the Southern League in ERA, while ranking 4th amongst league starters in SO/9.0 IP (8.38)…named to the Southern League All-Star team…recorded 14 quality starts…struck out season-high 10 batters July 24 at Chattanooga (5.0,6,3,3,0,10,HR,HB)…ranked 4th amongst all Mariners farmhands with 121 strikeouts…made 3 starts with Cardenales de Lara in Venezuelan Winter League.

2012

Led High Desert in wins…only the 4th pitcher in franchise history to start at least 25 games and have an ERA under 4.00 in a single season; joins John Patterson (2.83) and Brad Penny (2.96) in 1998 and Luis Galindez (3.87) in 1992…his 11 wins rank T8th in a single season by a Mavericks pitcher…led the team with 12 quality starts including 6 of his final 8 starts of the season; during this 8-game stretch, from July 16-Aug. 31, went 5-1 with a 2.34 ERA (13 ER, 50.0 IP)…recorded his first career double digit strikeout game with a career-high 11 K's in 7.2 innings on July 21 at Stockton (7.2,6,3,3,1,11,HR).
