Began the season as a member of Pittsburgh’s starting rotation... Started the fourth game of the season on April 11 at STL (4.0 IP, 2ER)...Left the game in the fifth inning after taking a line drive off the back of his right shoulder... Pitched in relief for the first time of the year on May 4 at DET (2) and picked up his first win as a member of the Pirates... Tossed 5.0 scoreless innings in a no-decision on May 8 at CIN... Allowed just one hit in 6.0 scoreless innings while winning his second game on May 14 vs. CIN...Extended his scoreless innings streak to 12.0 innings... Went 2-2 with a 2.54 ERA (11 ER/39.0 IP) in an eight-start stretch from May 8-June 17... Placed on the 15-day injured list June 20 (retroactive to June 18) due to right forearm nerve inflammation... Reinstated from the injured list July 3 and started that afternoon vs. MIL (4.2 IP, 2ER)... Lost each of his final six decisions of the season.

Became the first pitcher in franchise history to make his big league debut as a starting pitcher at Fenway Park...Pitched 5.0 scoreless innings and earned his first Major League win in his second start on 6/12 vs. Atlanta; also singled off Max Fried in his first big league at-bat... Made his second road start on 6/20 at Chicago (NL); according to the Elias Sports Bureau, he became the fourth player in baseball history to make his first two career road starts at Wrigley Field and Fenway Park and the first to do it in the same season with the same team... Had a career-high 11 strikeouts on 6/26 vs. Washington...Was announced as a pinch hitter on 7/25 vs. San Diego, but was then pinch-hit for... Doubled off Cincinnati’s Wade Miley on 8/27...
