Name is pronounced “chee-AH-go vee-AIR-uh”...He and his wife, Ana Carolina, have a daughter named Geovana...Is one of just five players born in Brazil to play in the Major Leagues along with Yan Gomes (2012-current), Andre Rienzo (2013-15), Paulo Orlando (2015-18) and Luiz Gohara (2017-18)...Pitched for Team Brazil in the 2013 World Baseball Classic and the 2012 and 2016 WBC Qualifiers...Speaks Portuguese, Spanish, English and some Japanese...Enjoys playing soccer and boxing in his free time in addition to spending time with his family.

2023

Signed with Milwaukee as a free agent on 1/12...Went 2-2 with a 3.35 ERA and eight saves in 33 relief appearances at Triple-A Nashville before he was selected by Milwaukee on 9/6...International League opponents hit just .223 with 51 strikeouts in 37.2 innings...Made two relief appearances with the Brewers, coming on 9/8 at New York-AL and 9/17 vs. Washington...Was on the 15-day injured list from 9/18 through the remainder of the season with a right calf strain.

Broke the Nippon Professional Baseball record with a pitch clocked at 103.1 MPH on 8/13/21 vs. Chunichi...the previous record of 102.5 MPH was shared by Shohei Ohtani and Robert Corniel...was an All-Star in 2021.

Split most of the season between Class AA Arkansas and Class AAA Tacoma, going 2-4 with 4.00 ERA (24 ER/54.0 IP), four saves and 46 strikeouts over 41 relief appearances ... Was recalled by Seattle on 8/14, making his major-league debut that night vs. Baltimore … tossed a perfect ninth, recording his first career strikeout (Joey Rickard) … was optioned on 8/15. l Combined to hold right-handers to a .193 (25-129) average, compared to a .311 (23-74) mark against lefties ... Was traded by the Mariners to the White Sox on 11/16 in exchange for international signing pool money.

Spent the entire season with Class A Everett ...
