Daniel Jonathan Barnes...Attended Manhasset Secondary School in Manhasset, New York where he earned four varsity letters...As a senior, he posted an 8-1 win-loss record, 0.80 ERA, and 103 strikeouts in 58 innings pitched...After graduation, he attended Princeton University, and played three seasons for the Princeton Tigers while majoring in economics...In 2008, made 12 appearances, four of which were starts, and posted a 2-4 record, 4.58 ERA, and 37 strikeouts in 37 .1 innings.

Allowed five of 37 inherited runners to score (13.5%), the 2nd-best percentage in the AL ... Held opponents to a .118 average (8-for-68) with runners in scoring position while allowing just two extra-base hits ... Allowed 11 home runs, which was tied for 4th most among AL relievers and the most by a Toronto reliever since Jon Rauch in 2011 (11 HR) ... Called up from Triple-A Buffalo on April 18, April 27 (as 26th man for doubleheader at STL) and May 1 ... Matched a career-long outing with 2.1 IP on May 5 at TB (also Sept. 14, 2016 at TB) ... Surrendered his 1st major-league HR on May 16 vs. ATL (111 batters faced, 26.2 IP) ... Earned his 1st career win on May 23 at MIL (1.2 IP, 3K) ... Set a career high on May 30 vs. CIN with five strikeouts in a game ... Gave up a walk-off home run (Francisco Lindor) for his 3rd loss of the season on July 22 at CLE ... Suffered his 4th loss on Aug. 19 at CHC despite stranding two runners to end the 4th inning and retiring six of his eight batters faced…Marked the 7th time in 2017 that he fanned 3+ batters in an outing...Was the 7th time he worked 2.0+ IP and in those contests held a 1.26 ERA (2 ER/14.1 IP) with 20 strikeouts ... In his 28 games after the All-Star Break, posted a 5.33 ERA (16 ER/27.0 IP) with an opp. OPS of .838 (12-XBH, .248 AVG)... Had a 2.31 ERA over 32G prior to the break (10 ER/39.0 IP, .165 AVG, .505 OPS).

2016

On Aug. 2, 2016, was promoted to the Major Leagues...Made his MLB debut that night, holding a 2-1 lead with a scoreless inning of relief against the Houston Astros that included strikeouts of Alex Bregman and Carlos Correa...Was optioned back to Buffalo on Aug. 9 and recalled by TOR on Sept. 1...On Oct. 8, was added to the Blue Jays' AL Division Series roster after Francisco Liriano suffered a concussion.
