William Douglas Mitchell Jr....attended North Forsyth Senior High School (NC)...three-time all-conference selection in baseball...also lettered in basketball... attended Clemson University...started college career as a position player...appeared in Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd" edition on Sept. 3, 2007 after leading the Cape Cod League in strikeouts...Originally selected by New York (AL) in the 10th round of the 2008 June Draft out of Clemson University.
2012
Acquired from the Yankees along with Danny Farquhar (rhp) in exchange for Ichiro Suzuki on July 23...made 8 starts for AAA Tacoma, going 3-2 with a 2.96 ERA (16 ER, 48.2 IP)...recorded 6 quality starts and held opponents to a .223 batting average (41x184)... made his Major League debut with the Yankees appearing in 4 games over two stints, April 29-May 4 & June 30-July 18...threw 1.0 shutout inning in MLB debut May 1 vs. Baltimore; struck out the first batter he faced (J.J. Hardy)...went 6-4, 5.04 ERA (48 ER, 85.2 IP) in 15 G/14 GS with AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Spent the entire season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, going 13-9 with a 3.18 ERA in 28 games (24 starts)...allowed 3ER or less in 18 of his 24 starts...ranked second in the league in wins and innings pitched and was fifth in ERA...led all Yankees minor leaguers in wins and ranked third in ERA, earning the Kevin Lawn Award as the organization's "Minor League Pitcher of the Year." .. Held opponents to a 0.69 ERA (13.0IP, 1ER) in his four relief appearances...was 12-9 with a 3.40 ERA (148.1IP, 56ER) in 24 starts. .. Was 9-2 with a 2.41 ERA (89.2IP, 24ER) in 15 road appearances (13 starts), compared to a 4-7 record with a 4.14 ERA (71.2IP, 33ER) in 13 home games (11 starts). .. Went 6-7 with a 3.20 ERA (98.1IP, 35ER) in 17 games (15 starts) prior to the All-Star break...following the break, compiled a 7-2 record with a 3.14 ERA (63.0IP, 22ER) in 11 games (nine starts). .. Tossed a league-high-tying three complete games, including 7.0-inning shutouts on 7/2 at Pawtucket and 7/9 vs. Rochester...his other CG came on 4/23 vs. Syracuse in the second game of a doubleheader (7.0IP)...recorded just one complete game over his previous two professional seasons. .. Struck out a career-high 10 batters in 6/6 loss vs. Toledo (6.0IP, 9H, 3ER, 3BB). .. Was added to the Yankees 40-man roster on 11/18/11.

Began the season with Double-A Trenton where he went 11-4 with a 4.06 ERA (133.0IP, 60ER) in 23 games (22 starts), holding batters to a .183 (26-for-142) average with runners in scoring position...was one of two Thunder pitchers named to the midseason All-Star team...was promoted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on 8/23, where he made three starts, going 2-0 with a 3.57 ERA (17.2IP, 7ER)...made one start for Scranton/ WB during the postseason and recorded a no-decision, allowing 3ER on 8H in 5.0IP (4R, 2BB, 4K, 1HR)
2009
Made his professional debut, combining to go 12-7 with a 2.63 ERA in 25 appearances (24 starts) for Single-A Charleston and Single-A Tampa... ranked second among all Yankees minor leaguers in strikeouts (125), tied for second in wins and ranked fourth in ERA... began the season with Charleston, going 4-1 with a 1.95 ERA in six starts... won each of his first four decisions from 4/10-5/1... was transferred to Tampa on 5/13 where he remained for the rest of the season, going 8-6 with a 2.87 ERA in 19 appearances (18 starts)... tossed his first career complete game on 6/18 vs. Palm Beach, taking the loss after allowing 7H and 5ER in 7.0IP (2BB, 7K).

Was placed on the 60-day disabled list on 8/19 with a right oblique muscle strain before appearing in a game.
