Matthew Steven Mangini...graduated from Apex (NC) High School in June, 2004...attended North Carolina State University in 2004-05...in the summer of 2005, was named the top prospect in the Northwoods League and also a Baseball America Summer League All-American...in the summer of 2006, won the Thurman Munson Award as the batting champion in the Cape Cod League...transferred to Oklahoma State University for the 2007 season and earned Second Team All Big 12 honors...hit .343 (79x230) with 59 runs, 16 doubles, 2 triples, 9 home runs and 49 RBI in 60 games for the Cowboys.

Opened the season on Seattle's major league DL with a right quadriceps strain...was activated on April 21 and optioned to Triple-A Tacoma, where he batted .336 (78-for-232) with a .399 OBP over 58 games, appearing at first base (35 games), third base (15) and DH...batted .380 (68-for-179) vs. righthanders compared to .189 (10-for-53) vs. lefties... placed on Tacoma's DL from May 11-June 4 with a left quadriceps strain... placed on the DL on July 31 with post-concussion symptoms from a home plate collision he was involved in before the All-Star break...was released on Aug 23.
