Began the season at Portland where he was an Eastern League All-Star with the Sea Dogs. Made 16 starts for Portland (1 relief appearance)…Allowed 3 ER or fewer in 12 of his 16 starts. Overall, had 4 scoreless outings for Portland, 3 of which were 7.0 or more innings. Allowed only 1 hit over 8.0 scoreless innings on 6/5 at Erie…Earned the win, walked 1, and struck out a season- high 8 in Portland's 6-0 shutout. Named EL Pitcher of the Week for 6/3-9. Threw a shutout in his very next starts against Erie on 6/11 (7.0 IP, 6 H, BB, 3 SO). Held Double-A left-handed batters to a .187 AVG (20-for-107). Posted a 4-2 record with a 2.32 ERA (13 ER/50.1 IP) over his final 8 starts for the SeaDogs. Was promoted to Pawtucket on 7/5…Made only 1 appearance, a start on 7/9 at Lehigh Valley (L, 5.1 IP, 5 ER). Was recalled by BOS on 7/14…Worked out of the bullpen and made his ML debut on 7/20 vs. NYY (1.0 IP). Each of his first 7 appearances (9.0 IP) for BOS were scoreless…Overall did not allow runs in 13 of his 18 appearances for the Sox. Earned his 1st ML win in the Red Sox 15-inning, 5-4 victory on 7/31 vs. SEA. Threw a career-high 2.0 innings on 3 occasions (7/29 vs. TB, 7/31 vs. SEA, and 8/27 vs. BAL)…Did not allow a run in any of those 3 games. Pinch ran in the 9th inning on 8/7 at HOU and scored on Stephen Drew's game-winning 3-run HR.

Paced Salem with 8.20 strikeouts per 9.0 innings (min. 55.0 IP). ... Ranked 2nd on the team with 89 K's overall and was fourth on the club in innings pitched. Struck out at least a batter per inning pitched in 14 of his 26 starts. Gave up three earned runs or less in 20 of his 26 starts, including a season-long 8-game stretch from 4/20-5/30 and seven of his last eight starts beginning 7/19.
