Daniel Ray Herrera graduated from Permian High School in Odessa, TX, where he played baseball...Pitched at the University of New Mexico from 2004-2006...In 2006 he led the staff in ERA (2.24), wins (10), starts (17), strikeouts (104), complete games (three) and innings pitched (128.1)...Was named a Louisville Slugger second-team All-American and a Baseball America third-team All-American.
2011
Acquired from Milwaukee, along with minor league righthanded pitcher Adrian Rosario on September 1 as part of the trade that sent righthanded pitcher Francisco Rodriguez and cash considerations to the Brewers on July 12...Was unscored upon in 15 of 16 games with the Mets...Tossed 7.0 scoreless innings in his first 11 outings with New York, September 2-September 18...Has held lefthanded batters to a .215 (37-172) career mark...Did not allow a run in 5.0 innings at Citi Field, spanning 10 games...National League East opponents were 2-19 (.105) against him...Was claimed off waivers by the Brewers from the Cincinnati Reds on May 23...Allowed five runs, four earned in two games with Milwaukee...Was 1-4 with a 2.20 ERA (15 earned runs/61.1 innings) with three saves and 54 strikeouts in 46 combined games between Louisville (AAA) of the International League and Nashville (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League.

With 70 apps ranked second on the staff and fourth among all NL rookie pitchers...LH batters hit just .183 (20-109, 2 HR)...posted ERAs of 2.35 in April, 1.64 in May, 2.25 in June, 4.91 in July, 3.65 in August and 3.52 in September/October...posted ERAs of 2.78 before the All-Star break and 3.46 in the second half...on 5/6 vs Mil had 4 strikeouts in 3.0 innings, both career highs...threw 3.0 innings again in the 7-2 win vs Atl on 6/16, when he earned his first career victory...also in that game made his first career plate appearance and struck out vs Manny Parra.

In his Major League debut made 7 apps during 3 stints with the Reds...made 1 appearance while on the roster from 6/3-6/4, another while on the roster from 6/10-6/13 and then 5 more following the International League playoffs...made 57 apps at Chattanooga and Louisville (7-4-6, 2.72, 72.2ip, 59h, 17bb, 60k)...was promoted the first time on 6/3, when LHP Kent Mercker went on the disabled list...in that night's 3-2 loss at Phi made his Major League debut and pitched a scoreless seventh inning (1ibb, 2k)... entered the game with runners on second and third with no outs but stranded both (Shane Victorino 6-3, Ryan Howard K, Pat Burrell K)...was the 17th player from the 2006 or 2007 draft to make it to the big leagues... overall for the Reds stranded all 5 inherited baserunners...was 1 of 10 Reds players to make his Major League debut, joining RHP Johnny Cueto, IF Paul Janish, OF Jay Bruce, RHP Daryl Thompson, IF Adam Rosales, OF Chris Dickerson, RHP Ramon Ramirez, C/IF/OF Wilkin Castillo and RHP Josh Roenicke...while with the Bats made his first professional plate appearance on 8/8 vs Columbus (struck out).

Went 7-2, 3.69 ERA in 41 apps and 1 start at Class A Bakersfield and Class AA Frisco...struck out 75 batters in 63.1 innings and held opponents to a .246 BA while giving up just 4 homers...began the season at Bakersfield...made his only start of the season on 5/14 vs Lancaster (4ip, 4h, 0r, 1bb, 2k)...on 5/17 was promoted to Frisco...in 10 apps from 6/9-7/11 gave up just 2 runs over 19.0 innings (0.95era, 28k)...following the season played for Surprise in the prestigious Arizona Fall League.
2006
In his first professional season went 4-1-3, 1.45 in 17g and 15 starts with the Rookie AZL Rangers and Class A Bakersfield...was recognized by Baseball America as having the best control in the Texas organization...also was named by that publication as the best second-day draft pick (rounds 21-50) and a 2006 draft first-year All-Star...was named Rangers Minor League Pitcher of the Month for August (6g, 4gs, 3-1, 1.53, 35.1ip, 43k, 6bb).
