Full name is Joshua Michael Thole ("TOLL-ee")… graduated from Breese Mater Dei (Ill.) H.S. in 2005, where he was All-State in baseball and also played football.

Batted .243/.352/.327 (55-for-226) with 10 doubles, 3HR, 26RBI and 37BB in 72 games with Double-A Tulsa, Triple-A Oklahoma City and Triple-A Salt Lake… appeared in 47 games with Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma, hitting .245 (34-for-139) with 15R, 5 doubles, 1HR, 14RBI and 21BB… slashed .241/.359/.368 with 5 doubles, 2HR, 12RBI and 16BB in 25 games with Triple-A Salt Lake… combined to throw out 13-of-68 (19.1%) attempted base stealers.

Spent spring training in the Major League camp of the Arizona Diamondbacks and appeared in 11 exhibition games at catcher…released from Arizona on March 18... Signed a minor league contract with the Detroit Tigers on June 22 and was assigned to the Double-A Erie SeaWolves of the Eastern League...Played in 21 games for Erie hitting .238/.320/.302 with 11 runs, a double, a home run and 10 RBI...Caught 165.0 innings behind the plate for Erie with just one passed ball and a fielding percentage of .994.
2017
Missed the entire 2017 season after suffering a hamstring tear on March 15...underwent surgery on March 28 in Phoenix (performed by: Dr. Gary Waslewski).
2015
Had three separate stints with Toronto. Spent most of season with Buffalo (Triple-A) appearing in 45 games posting a .228 average, adding 20 walks in 149 ABs. Was optioned to Bluefield in the Appalachian League (Rookie) on August 28... Returned to the parent club on Sept. 2 at the conclusion of the Rookie League season. Appeared in 18 games for Toronto, his fewest since his rookie season in 2009. Started 15 games, 13 with R.A. Dickey on the mound... Other two came in Drew Hutchison starts (May 21 & October 1). Had a string of 55 straight starts as the battery-mate for R.A Dickey snapped on April 8.

Hit safely in eight of his first nine games… Through March/April, he posted a line of .478/.500/.522/1.022 in 10 games...Through May, he had reached base safely in 14 of his 22 games, hitting .340 (18-53) in that time… After that point, hit .188 (15-80) in 35 games...Reached base safely in 29 of his 41 starts this season...Posted a .997 fielding percentage in 307 TC this season… Caught 4.3% of stolen base attempts this season, a new careerlow...Had a catcher's ERA of 3.94 this season, down from a career-high 4.40 in 2013...TOR has a record of 34-41 in his 75 starts since joining the club last season…Of those 75 starts, he has caught Dickey in 55 of those games, the longest current streak of starts for any ML pitcher with one catcher…The team is 28-27 in those 55 contests...Snapped a 0-22 hitless drought with a single in the 5th inning July 3 at OAK.
